How To Write A Reflective Essay About My Writing Class
Writing has always been a challenge for me. I was hesitant to join the program because I knew I was not a good writer. I knew the program could push me to become a better writer. I feel my writing has improved and I can spot the major mistakes I’ve been making thanks to the feedback I’ve received in this class.
I was extremely nervous about having others review and critic my writing. That was the hardest part of this class for me. The comments they provided were helpful and made sense. I learned to recognize passive voice a little better and to vary the length of my sentences. My sentences are choppy and I sometimes repeat myself in other parts of my paper. The book was very helpful. I found I was using the wrong words. I needed to keep it simple sometimes. I also realized I was not very good at summarizing a passage. I

I think the main issue I have is transition and vocabulary. I would like to transition from one sentence to another better. Even one paragraph to another. The books were helpful in giving me ideas on how to do that. I would like my writing to flow better.
I would also like to work on my vocabulary. I was doing it wrong the entire time. I thought using bigger words or what I thought were more descriptive words would be better and it wasn’t. The charts that showed what words to use and not to use made me realize I was wrong all along. In this class, I started using the thesaurus to replace the common words that could be better. That has helped me and I have expanded my witting vocabulary a bit more. I want to continue working on that.
For me, writing is difficult and complex. I’ve always been afraid of it and don’t think that will change. There are so many rules to follow and books to read that will help. I’ve learned a lot from this class and at least I can say I’ve learned how to spot mistakes and how to improve them. I will never be a perfect writer but at least I have a little more confidence

Overall, my experience taking English 106-H was fulfilled and I truly enjoyed my time in class. What were once weaknesses, slowly, but surely became strengths. Thus, it was through my weaknesses that helped me develop my writing skills, making me a stronger writer. Through free writing, word traps, and ideas of my own, I was able to implement those strategies into my writing. Nevertheless, I have reached my goal, but still will continue to strive for even stronger writing through out all of my courses at Lycoming College.…

I have attempted to do this before, but because I have never had a class that focused so much on writing, it has been difficult. Next, I would like to improve my grammar and learn the more intricate details of grammar that I do not currently know. My last goal is to learn what wording and writing style to use when, such as who merits a more professional style and when my writing can be more…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

I think that now I write papers more structured and organized rather than throwing all of my ideas down on the paper. In the future, I think that I will seek feedback by asking a friend to proof read my work or by going to the ask center for help after I have read it aloud several times. If I need more feedback I could talk to my professor and see what his expectations are and what I can improve on. Overall, the experience that I had with all of my proof reading and feedback resources was positive. Writing is definitely not my favorite task, but I don’t hate it either. I would say that I am indifferent towards writing. However, writing is a skill that needs to be honed and mastered, because it plays such a key role in almost any career. So when I started working in the lab I was a little apprehensive, because I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. But through my work in the lab I have observed so many different levels of students and how that plays a role in their writing and style; I have even learned some facts about the way I write that I was not aware of. I have learned that I am not very confident in my own writing skills, and I need to work on my writer’s voice.…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

One skill that I saw an improvement in throughout the course was the ability to evaluate a text. Prior to this class I would read a text and be able to decipher the subject matter or main points, but now at the end of the quarter, I have obtained the ability to not only be able to summarize, but to be able to analyze writing styles and determine reasoning for their usage. I have also seen a large improvement in my research skills. I’ve learned that choosing the best source for my writing does not have to be the source with the most information, but rather the source that best supports my argument and/or analysis. An additional skill that I’ve adapted assists in nearly any assignment you could write, which is the ability to revise with consideration to your audience. I generally would write an assignment without much consideration to who my audience was, but throughout this course I’ve learned that it is difficult to properly portray your stance if you don’t write to whom you are trying to portray it…

Whenever participating in any type of writing class, I tend to discover numerous strengths and weaknesses behind my work. I benefit greatly from reviewing my old essays, and reflecting on my personal growth. This type of pattern has been consistent since I started focusing on becoming a better writer, and it has led to some serious strides in a few departments. Being given the opportunity to be a part of Professor Murray’s class this semester, allowed for me to reassess this method I always used, and refine some of the bad tendencies I created. Whenever we spent entire class periods reviewing our past writing assignments, it benefited me greatly. Getting to break down my work in front of the class, and listen to other students explain their struggles, has made it quite easy to reflect on the impact this course has had on me.…
