How To Write A Persuasive Letter To Columbus
Dear Mr. Mayor, The statue of Christopher Columbus that resides in the city hall should be removed and relocated to a different location, such as the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society. If it were to be moved, I would strongly recommend attaching a plaque, which can provide a synopsis of facts, regarding his treatment towards indigenous tribes. This statue has caused a stir of mixed emotions for many individuals. However, it is important to acknowledge the wrongdoings he imposed in order to be honest about our history, which is entailed by this prominent figure. The location of the statue is problematic and offensive for residents because city hall is supposed to symbolize a sense of unity within a community, equality for all citizens, and to hear the voices of the concerned citizen. The placement of the statue can dissuade individuals from coming to city hall. The city of San Jose has a diverse community of people who come from all different ethnic backgrounds and countries. Moreover, for individuals coming in and seeing the Italian explorer being glorified is derogatory and a painful reminder of the grim history that is involved with this prominent explorer.
The citizens of San Jose are having greater awareness of different historical narrative. It is through education of these historical narratives that people can judge the

A statue represents someone who once stood and was firm about certain ideals, but is now gone. In terms of this issue, a statue can represent where we once stood because in one sense a statue is seen as a representation of history. If the statue was to be relocated, I would strongly recommend it be exhibited at the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society because it is through this institution historians can provide a synopsis of objective facts, regarding Christopher

The Alamo Cenotaph is a beautiful well-preserved statue visited by thousands of tourists and the city’s residents. However, it is of extreme difficulty to compare it with Trajan’s column because even though it has lost its original pigment, it is a freestanding monument in the middle of an amazing piazza with views to the Forum, the church Nome di María, and the Altare Della Patria, among other spectacular, breathtaking, significant monuments and sites in the city. To be fair, Rome itself and Trajan’s Column are topics studied and known worldwide, and San Antonio, even being very famous within the United States for containing The Alamo, is not nearly as recognized as Rome since it is one of the most important capitals of the world. To be more specific the cities themselves are not quite comparable in size, relevance, historical significance, etc. Therefore, the monuments although both imperatives in their own cities are quite difficult to compare contrast with each other, except regarding their physical appearances and…

Italian explorer, Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in the republic of Genoa, Italy. Christopher Columbus sought to find a way to the Indies to find gold and spice. After receiving significant funding from Queen Elizabeth and King Ferdinand, he set sail on August 3, 1492 with three ships, the Pinta, Nina, and Santa Maria, with 104 men. The voyage he took to find gold and spice led him not to Asia but to the discovery of America which wasn’t the place he expected to arrive at. Christopher Columbus is responsible for the death of the Tainos because he used the kindness of the Tainos to his benefit, ordering his men to enslave and mistreat the Tainos, and his bad governing skills.…

I believe that the monument should stay in its rightful place. Since it’s been located there for more than 80 years it was built there in 1925. I feel that the people that do not like the monument should not drive by it, or go visit it. These complaints started in 2010 in Prince George’s county in the state of Maryland.…

today Christopher Columbus is one of two people to have their name marked on a national holiday. If we knew the true facts of Christopher Columbus would we be less likely to celebrate and honor him on that day? Christopher Columbus was ooking for a new route to the east to get spices because the Turks closed the land route. After two months at sea he landed in the West Indies. He found a new contient, so we were taught. For centuries fishermen and seamen had known the earth was roung. The Turks made money from the land routes being open so they had not reason to close the land routes. Europeans had been fishing off of Newfoundland in 1480's. For thousand of years the Irish an dPhoenicians had visited Canada and New England, Columbus' purpose fro the beginning was not exploration or trade, but conquest and exploitation. the fact that sailors carried small pox, bubonic plague adn influenza killed a very large percentage of the natives everywhere they went. Taking of land , wealth and labor from the natives which caused their near extermination and the transatlanti slave trade which created racial underclass were introduces by Columbus that revolutionized race relations and transformed the modern world. When Christopher Columbus could not find gold to take, he took slaves and shipped them to Europe. He mistreatedthe natives he came upon, taking their land and raping their…

I agree with this article for numerous reasons. Mainly because if we start taking down statues of our history because someone is shook up we will have to take down and put up new statues as soon as some people are angry about what went on in that time also. Continuing on that topic, not just Washington but almost if not all Presidents owned slaves before it was outlawed. By the left's view point here they were all bad people and should not be remembered because they stood for something that today is considered inhuman and barbaric. With regard to Columbus, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING. He came over to America and brought the practices of the European people. For instance, if he didn't decide to come over here and bring all the…

But if I step back and try to look at it logically I can definitely see why this caused so much controversy and 26 years later we are still talking about it and writing papers about the case. Yes, a committee backed by the federal government did commission this piece for a federal plaza and yes, the artist chosen believed that this sculpture would be there forever like the Statue of Liberty for instance. But most people did not understand the symbolism of this piece, it’s just a big dark, metal wall, what is its significance, what is its meaning? The average public would not understand the meaning of the piece, should that matter? I guess my thought is just because the government-funded it doesn’t mean we should be stuck with it forever. Our government funds a lot of things that we as Americans don’t agree with and we should have a say in some of the…

Dear Ms UN Secretary General, Imagine our planet as a spaceship. In preparation for a long, deep space voyage, the spaceship carries everything its astronauts need to survive. This spaceship provides you with all the necessities for life, just like planet Earth. There are no grocery stores, highways, burning industrial factories or gas stations on the spaceship. Most of the spaceship's systems are powered by the sun's radiation. Freshwater and clean air will be continuously recycled 24/7. Not only do you have to think about all the things you will need to survive, you have to consider the consequences of those things in terms of the wastes created and recycled. The crew are constantly engaged in managing the resources as carefully as possible.…

Christopher Columbus day should not remain a holiday because it is just another event on the calendar to keep track of and it could make some native American tribes aggravated if it stays. Even if Columbus day isn’t as bad as it seems, the people have the right to want to get rid of it. Although some people will get mad if this day leaves, they should know that “Columbus was a cruel slave trader who brought about the mass killing of native people.”. Columbus day was supposed to be a day when America was found, but others go deeper than that and want to get rid of it. All people, Americans and Native Americans get to have a say in this, whether it be to stay or it is to…

So in conclusion my opinion on Christopher Columbus does not need his own holiday nor does he deserve to have a headstone where he is buried. My immediate response to Las Casas’ account was one of sorrow, dread, and horror. I cannot even express in words the emotions that ran through my mind and soul as I read this terrifying report exposing the truth of our country’s beginnings. My voice cracked as I read aloud Las Casas’ words, and I felt myself holding back tears as a roar against injustice raged within me. I wish I could believe Las Casas was a liar, but his brutal honesty wipes away every possible doubt.…

Among the various national American holidays, Columbus Day has always been one of pride and respect. This day supposedly marks when Europeans first landed eyes on the seemingly empty territory of the Americas during the Age of Exploration, ready to conquer and colonize. However, should Columbus be praised for this? America should no longer continue to celebrate Columbus Day because Christopher Columbus’s contact with the Americas is not praiseworthy, he abused the Natives, and was detrimental to the health of the people. Columbus should not be commended for first contact with the Americas because people had already been inhabiting the land, there is evidence of past relations with the Americas,…

Columbus day, October 12, 1492, has long been recognized, by America and many other countries, as a day to celebrate the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Americas. Traditionally, there has been much opposition to the National celebration of Columbus Day from a variety of groups. By examining documents, both historical and modern, it is evident Americans should not celebrate Columbus day, based on the evidence that Columbus committed actions that, by today’s standards, are barbaric and violent.…

    The Last Conquistador

In the movie The Last Conquistador, there is a controversy going on between John Houser, a sculpture who successfully attempted to create and mount the tallest bronze equestrian statue in the world, and people who funded the building of the statue and Native Americans living in Texas. The Native Americans don’t want the statue of a long-forgotten Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate, branded a terrorist and a genocidal architect by some, to be built. The Native Americans think that Juan de Oñate is anything to celebrate. He killed thousands of the Native Americans’ ancestors and took their lands. While the Native Americans have their points, Houser and his helpers are trying to help out the city of El Paso, Texas. El Paso Texas is one of the poorest cities in the United States. With Houser Building this statue, Revenue from tourists would help the city out. I honestly think that in this situation, everyone needs to understand where everyone else is coming from. The statue was not meant to be demeaning to the Native Americans in anyway and it is a beautiful piece of art that is very well sculpted. But then again, Houser should have done his research and understood how bad of a man Oñate was and realized that putting that statue up where eighty percent of the people living there are of Native American decent wasn’t a good idea. Even though the Oñate statue is beautiful, I believe it should have never gone up in the first place.…
