How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
Flexibility to Thrive
By : Warishah Khan

One of the greatest challenges I’ve had to overcome was having to moving to different states every few years. From New Jersey, to Texas, to New York and back to New Jersey. This was literally my life ever since I was a baby until now. Every time we thought that we can finally settle, we get the news of my dad getting a new job and soon enough we’re on verge of moving. I believe that in order to live a good life you should be flexible because at the end of the day life goes on and you have to live through it.

Growing up as a kid, I’ve had to face many obstacles in my life. Making friends was always a difficult task for me. Obviously, when you have to move every 4 to 5 years, having friends can be tough. You’ve probably heard of the saying “ Having four

I never had been invited to a birthday party, a sleepover, or even a playdate. However, I did manage to make a few friends I was very close to, but it didn’t matter. In about a month or so, I had to move to New York. I was torn apart, I worked so hard to build a good, genuine life just to hear that I had to start over. As I grew older, It became harder to make friends. Drama started to approach my life and I started to get more miserable day by day. It was me, me against enemies, me against friends. Somehow they both seemed to become one. Over the years, I learned to be flexible you have to adapt to your surroundings. You have to forget about your past and start living your future and always be prepared for changes in life.

I believe that Flexibility is one of the most important values in life. In order to thrive in life you have to adjust to your surrounding, no matter how hard the change is, you have to live through it. Being flexible helps you face challenges, makes you successful, helps you become a better person in general and most importantly you are more effective in

One significant experiance in my life has been my dad being in the Millitary. My dad was in the Millitary for a short time of one year before he decided it wasnt for him. But in that one year we moved two times. We moved from my hometown of Anacortes Washington to California. I started school and things werent that bad, I made friends and had a park right across the street from my house! life was good. But then we had to move again, to Arizona. We moved from sea side California to the Arizona Dessart. This is where I was really challanged, I didnt make friends as easy as the first move. We moved from a spacious town house with a park to a tiny appartment with no backyard. I distanced myself from my parents and everyone else in my family, I…

My father worked in the United States Marine core during my adolescent years, and because of it we were constantly moving around. I believe it made me more of an adaptable person, however once I met whom I considered my best friend moving around was not so fun anymore. I’ve always been more of a quiet person so meeting friends was not easy for me, and the few I had were as close to me as family. Moving to Philadelphia from Virginia was very traumatic for me at that age. My parents told me that I would have many meaningful people come in and out of my life as time went on, but at the time I figured I would never find another friend like the one I had. After months of being in a very depressive state I became very close friends with our neighbor’s daughter whom is still one of my closest…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

My writing process has evolved since the beginning of the year. Looking back at my previous essays and writing assignments over the course of the semester, I can distinctively see a gradual improvement through the different pieces of writing. Even though the differences from my early works at the beginning of the semester might not be drastic, the small improvements are what positively impacted my writing style. From the beginning of class until now, I have discovered new strengths and weaknesses, redefined my writing process, and corrected mistakes from the essays along the way.…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

College is meant to be the best few years of a person's life, and I have to say I agree. When it comes to college there are many ways a person can go about their experiences, they could join a sports team, fulfill the college dream of partying every weekend, or they could be like me, a person who has spent most of their time so far stressing over classes and studying like a madman. No matter how a person goes about their college experience, each option has the potential to be an intimidating one. With the sports team outcome, there comes fear of not being as talented as some teammates, partying comes with the fear of not fitting in with the cool crowd, and lastly, consistent studying and stressing results in the fear of not being good enough and not reaching the ideal GPA. While college can be intimidating, it is a very rewarding experience, I have improved my writing skills, I have received an average grade in this course, and I have learned a few important lessons from my hectic first semester.…

I wanted to have because I needed new friends who were encouraging, supportive, funny, and most importantly, honest. I had times when my old friends would get me grounded by my parents for staying out too late, being involved with school drama, or going to the principal’s office for disrupting the class. This happened almost every other month. Those same friends would doubt me instead of encouraging me during some tough situations like when my dog passed away.…

One thing that has shaped me to become the person writing to you today, is my level of determination to succeed. That probably sounds hollow, because everyone will say that, but let me explain my story. I am not a prideful person or a personal flag waver, so even telling this story is difficult. I cannot say what I am now without showing how I’ve been fighting my whole life to be able to call myself determined.…

I remember the first time I created art. I was seven years old and I was already in the midst of learning about myself. The pencil crayons felt like paint brushes as I let my inner artist run wild. I felt like Matisse himself even though I had no idea who that was at the time. I drew a rose and an off-coloured clownfish that looked more like Tiger. Although the things I drew had no significance, the idea of creating something captivated me ever since. I practiced baking to settle my need for creation and ended up falling in love with the hobby; baking is what fulfilled my need for creation and decoration. I still satisfy my need for art by occasionally visiting the Art Gallery of Ontario or drawing silly sketches the on scrap pieces of paper…
