Why you should read this book Surprisingly, I had never heard about the much accredited, Best-Selling book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. First written in 1936 and revised several times to this day, this book is one that you really should not pass up. “How to Win Friends and Influence People” will open your eyes and allow you to become the ideal leader that you have always dreamed of, but have not been able to become. Why this book was written The book was written to give people a guide and lead them to adapt a more sensible way of thinking, to understand people and provide them with an educative book that they needed, yet had not ever been written. “There is nothing else that so kills the ambitions of a person as criticisms from superiors.” Give honest and sincere appreciation Deep down, humans crave to be appreciated. So many times, people hear things they have done wrong and no comments on things they have done right. “Once I did bad, and that I heard ever; Twice I did good, and that I heard never.” Show genuine appreciation in whatever it is a person spends their time on. Be sure not to confuse flattery with appreciation. Flattery is fake and can be spotted right away, while appreciation is a genuine interest. Arouse in the other person an eager want Bait the hook to suit the fish. Talk about what they want instead of what you want. When reacting to a decision, take a step back and think of the smart thing to do, not the natural thing. The human thing is to run in and scold a person for suddenly rising the cost, which will damage the other person’s pride. Doing so will then make the other individual go on the defensive, and stronger rationalizing the decisions he previously made.
