HOW DO YOU SPELL SECURITY?
I think most of us will agree that security is spelled S-E-C-U-R-I-T-Y, right? So, if you were filling out a Federal I-9 form for a new employee and they handed you a Social Security Card that looked like this one with security spelled SEgURITY you would most likely know you were dealing with a forgery, however, not all forgeries are this easy to spot, so today I’m going to tell you about a FREE government program available to employers that in a manner of seconds will verify that your newly hired employee is eligible to work inside the United States.
You may be asking yourself why this matters. Well, regardless of how we fill about the undocumented workers in this country, the law on employing them is quite clear. It is Illegal. All newly hired must have a Federal Form I-9 completed when they are hired. An I-9 is divided into 3 sections, Section 1 to be completed by the newly hired employee and Sections 2 and 3 are completed by the Employer. In the Employer section of the I-9 is a certification that states.
I attest under penalty of perjury, that I have examined the documents(s) presented by the above-named employee, that the above-listed documents(s) appear to be genuine and to relate to the employee named, that the employee began employment on --/--/-- and that to the best of my knowledge the employee is eligible to work in the United States. (State employment agencies may omit the date the employee began employment)
The employer’s representative must then print and sign their name and print the name of the company along w/ its address.
Do you know why this info is important to the government? Because for every “occurrence” they find on an I-9 they can fine the company as well as the employee who completed that I-9 up to 10,000.00.
