Who are the victims in a hate crime? Victimization does not end with the primary person that was attacked. The Laramie Project demonstrated how the entire community, and eventually the nation, of a little town in Wyoming was affected by the death of 22 year old Matthew Shepard in October, 1998. Secondary victims, who do not bear the physical pain, but endure the after effects and emotional pain, included Matthew’s parents, Deputy Sheriff Reggie Fluty (who was called to the crime scene and tended to Matthew), and Doctor Cantway (who treated both Matthew and one of his attackers, Aaron McKinney) (Karmen, 2013). The effects of this hate crime saturated a society and called more than morals into question. Incidents like these force humanity to look at itself and criticize its core beliefs. Laramie’s motto of “Live and Let Live” applied to most…

Racial Profiling has existed in the United States for Centuries now, and it is time for change. In “ Racial Profiling and its Solutions” the author states “Steps must be made to combat racial profiling, so the United States can truly live up to its word as an equal nation”. One way to get on the path of stopping Racial Profiling is to change the practice of law enforcement. The main cause of racial profiling comes from police officers, who use racial profiling as a way to harass people and abuse their authority. If the law enforcement would start stopping more individuals of color for actual reasons and stop doing it without a credible reason, the stop of racial profiling would come more easily, which is stated in “ University of Pennsylvania…

Prejudice continues to exist in the United States in the modern era. Many decades have passed since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, yet major forms of prejudice and discrimination endure–some even in a more severe degree than before. The most prevalent: racial prejudice. Racial prejudice continues to occur all over the United States; however, Arizona’s state leadership has taken over a big role in perpetuating this with SB 1070. As a result, racial prejudice causes racial profiling in some states and may affect the economy and the future of many families in the United States.…

In one hate crime, A white-supremacist shot killed nine people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. He was only 21 years old, and had walked into a church and shot African-Americans that had ages range from 27 all the way to 87. A notorious white-supremacist group called the Ku Klux Klan (or the KKK) has been around since 1865 (Southern Poverty Law Center). According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, “Today, the Center estimates that there are between 5,000 and 8,000 Klan members, split among dozens of different - and often warring - organizations that use the Klan name”(SPLC). The final group that is the worst of the bunch is the Racist Skinheads. A skinhead is a person that has short, usually bald hair, black boots, and aggressive. My fellow citizens, I am here today to address an issue that is ongoing in our country. The increase in brutality towards individuals involved in the LGBT community is quickly becoming a problem in today’s world. As the president of this country and as a Brilombian citizen, I vow to put a stop to this. As individuals on this earth our purpose is to love, so we should support all forms of love. Instead of disrespecting and making our fellow humans feel worthless, we should accept and welcome them with open arms. It’s time to stop shunning others because they don’t fit our image of ‘normal’. It’s time for a change. But the world won’t change because you wish it to, we’ll have to work together to make it happen. The idea of equality isn’t…

Gay right has long been a controversial topic, and the debate seems to never end. In 2015, after gay marriage was legalized, instead of subsiding the skirmishes towards this topic, more and more problems come to surface. One of the most representative cases is the Denver, a case about whether Jack Philips, a cake shop owner, should be sentenced guilty for breaking the antidiscrimination law by refusing a gay couple’s wedding cake request. Although I grant that everyone should be treated equally, I insist in this case Mr. Philips is not guilty. Moreover, he is actually a victim in this case for two reasons.…
