How To Prevent School Shootings

School shootings in general are tragic, because they often affect innocent victims and almost always could have been prevented. In the given scenario Harless actions are in fact unstoppable, but the actions of the faculty are quite the opposite. The school went about the situation completely wrong. Instead of confronting the students once notified they are possibly in possession of a firearm, they should have notified law enforcement, worked to secure the area then isolate Harless and McCoy. In this situation, the boys are both criminals and victims but the issues they experienced at home or in the past do not and will never justify their actions. Per the list of symptoms given on the U.S Department of Veterans affairs website I do not believe they are suffering from PTSD, but I would also point out not enough back ground was given to support or deny the claim. I find that 10 years served is not equivalent to a person’s life in addition to the countless others affected by Harless’s actions. If kids are getting 10 years for smoking pot the scales that the blind lady of justice is using are off balanced. This whole scenario is wrong in my book …show more content…

Despite the evidence found that gun control in fact could decline crime, some individuals refuse to believe so. One of those individuals is, Kit Daniels, a Texas journalist. Daniels in his article “10 reasons why gun control will not work” argues that putting a restriction on gun laws will not stop mass killings or gun related deaths nationwide, because individuals who are set out kill will find a way around these restrictions. Daniels then proceeds to argue that a limit on obtaining guns is a violation to the second amendment (Daniels). The argument that Daniels argues which is that gun control will not abolish mass shootings is accurate to an extend. As Daniels argues individuals who want are set out to kill others will proceed to do so.…

People would say shootings only happen in bad neighborhoods, and ghettos. That is so not true gun violence is happening everywhere and this needs to be stopped.…

I do think there are attempts to reduce school shootings through improved technologies and making administration more available to students. In my opinion, by having students comfortable with the administration and school resource officers will create a safer environment for schools. Students are usually the first ones to be aware about a possible school shooting before teachers or principals. When students feel comfortable going to an advisor and know that their voice will not be ignored then the school will become safer. Administrators and teachers should recognize the signs of students who want to tell them information but look reluctant, this is where most of the training needs to be focused. I think that technology for increased security…

Gun violence has impacted so many communities across the country. Gun violence is one of the top ten causes of death in the United States. During the past decade in America more than 100,000 people have been killed due to gun violence. Close to half a million more people have fallen victim to assaults, robberies, mass shootings and other crimes that involved a gun. These tragedies were committed by criminals who should’ve never had access to a gun in the first place. In order to reduce gun violence we need to start by reforming legislation, improving the mental and physical health of citizens in need, efficient and effective background checks including how and what is reported, keeping track of what guns are sold, lost, or stolen and smart and effective enforcement of our gun laws.…

According to Elliot, “For the 2010-2011 school year, public schools report 31 school-associated violent deaths." '' Eleven of these reported deaths were homicides of children ages 5–18 on school grounds.''(Elliot 530). There are many ways that the shooter can sneak their firearm to school when it had a heavy presence of students. He or she can put their handgun in their pocket or carry a shotgun or assault rifle in a large coat. When the shooter walks into the school hallway, he or she will pull their weapon out of their hiding place and start to open fire on unexpected students and teachers. By this point, the shooter had a kill or seriously wounded many students and teachers. Therefore, the school system must find the solution to…

A few things that to help prevent School Shootings but failed would be the zero tolerance policy. The zero tolerance policy is preventing drugs and weapons being brought onto school property. But many students get away with it because they bring weapons to school hidden in their backpacks without anyone noticing, then they cause a tragedy, “Schools are not safer, or more educational because of zero tolerance policies.”(Nick Gillespie 4). This policy doesn't change anything so why have this policy when no one notice who enters school with weapons. We need a stronger system to prevent this from happening.…
