The role guns play in our society has long been a controversial topic for the past few years in the united states. There are those who believe that guns do not belong in the hands of citizens and there are those who believe that guns are the foundation that protects our rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. There are too many leading factors as to why there should not be any stricter gun control laws. Some of these factors are that they go against our fundamental rights of self defense, give too much power to the government, and could potentially increase crime rates in the united states.…

Every day, dozens or even hundreds of people find themselves victims of gun violence. 30,000 people on average are killed each year by firearms while 64% of all firearm deaths are suicides, and firearms are the third-leading cause of injury-related deaths nationwide. ("Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence," May 11, 2015). With those statistics, it would make sense why people think that gun control is the answer, and some regulations like background checks and increased penalties for those convicted of using guns in crimes are needed.…

First of all, letting people make uncontrolled gun purchases creates a dangerous and chaotic environment for other people. In my opinion, people having gun with them are so many that, it is dangerous to wander in public places such as; streets and parks, because when people especially 18 or 19 year old people have guns, anything can happen anytime. If we consider the rate of young people with guns increase every other day, inevitable events occur. For example, at the premiere of "Batman" in Colorado in summer 2012, a 24 year old gunman opened fire on the people in the theater in the middle of the movie and killed 12 people there. In fact, that is when the government started to consider the gun laws, but the issue is still suspended.…

Amidst all the raging debates regarding gun control, it is important to evaluate the issue from the perspective of the role that guns play in the lives of citizens. Crime has been on the rise in several American states. The rising cases of homicide in the past few years have prompted several states to implement stringent gun control laws that restrict purchase and possession of firearms by civilians. The American constitution allows civilians to own firearms for their own protection. However, this is not the main argument why gun control should not be allowed. This argument supports the need for Americans to protect themselves and their families. America does not need gun control but stringent policies that address the causes of gun misuse (Lott 83).…

What would be going through your mind if you were in a restaurant and a mad man came in and began slaughtering people right and left including you family (Swasey 174)? Would you be thinking if they would ban guns this would have never happened? Probably not! What you were probably thinking is if I had a gun on me I could protect not only my family but also the others being slaughtered. This same scenario was on the mind of Suzanna Gratia as written in Elizabeth Swasey essay ”NRA Woman’s Voice”(174). People are starting to see a gun as an object of death and destruction, and not what they are intended to be.…

Here is my first reason why gun control can help reduce gun deaths and help put an end to mass shootings. look at this procon.org said that from 1999 to 2013 gun deaths were the 12th leading cause of death over liver disease, Parkinson’s, drowning, fire, and machine deaths. Also, The New York times said that more than 17% of mass shooting the guns were obtained legally with federal background checks and at least eight of the gunman were had criminal records or mental health problems. Plus, bought multiple rounds of ammo or guns at a time or at once and…

There are several strategies that can dramatically reduce cases of gun violence. First, there are no reasons for citizens to purchase any type of semi-automatic or assault weapons. Instead, they should only be able to purchase handguns for protection purposes. Allowing citizens to purchase assault weapons only translates into providing support for people that have wrong intentions. Because these weapons are easily available, people who intend to cause harm can obtain one and carry out their plan. This is why it is very crucial to ban citizens from purchasing weapons that can inflict substantial damage. Although handguns can also cause great damage, they are less…

My first point is that gun control takes away many people's sense of security. According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), guns are used for self-defense 2.5 million times a year. The police cannot protect everyone all of the time. When a burglar breaks into your home, what would you use to protect yourself? 61% of men and 56% of women surveyed by Pew Research said that stricter gun laws would make it more difficult for people…

Most people who own guns, are the legal owners of that weapon (“Kates”1). Other countries and some states in the United States that restrict gun laws have more murders than places that do not have gun laws (“Guns in”3). In the United Kingdom they banned handguns in 1997. Since then, the attack and crime rate went up 77%. This is equivalent to two attacks every two minutes. (“Guns in”3). This is further evidence that guns are not just for killing, guns are for…

Guns do a lot of bad, but do a lot more good for society. Banning guns will not stop the problem, but will just make it worse. Guns are apart of our society as Americans they have been around since colonial years, and are not leaving anytime soon. “The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. (Kristof, The Times).” Guns offer protection for individuals. One day you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a shooting breaks out, you will pray there is someone else there with a concealed firearm to help control the situation while waiting for police to arrive. They can’t do that if guns are banned. “We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction (The Times News).” The research conducted to produce this paper was drawn from a multitude of sources all with different…

where i stand on gun control is that i believe we should have the right to get a gun but i feel like we might need to keep the rules and regulations on guns because everyone doesn't have the mentality that if you have a gun it can kill someone if you pull the trigger and some people have illegal guns that just have them for violences are so they can protect there self from other people who have guns but we do have people that believe guns are here to protect us not so you can just kill someone but if they get assault are get robbed they have that option to protect therself. There’s been debates and laws made are talked about being change like the bill of rights over guns and our rights as US citizens. personally why i believe we should have the rights to have a gun legal if your main purpose is to use it for protection not for killing out of rage or anger.…

The first, and probably the most important reason, is that handguns can easily get in the hands of children. Keeping them out of sight in a closet, or under ones' bed may not be enough. For example, a couple years ago, a five-year old boy was shot in his head by his eight-year-old brother. The older brother located the gun under his parent's bed. Thinking it was a toy gun, he pointed it towards his brother's head and pulled the trigger. These kinds of unfortunate events have occurred all over the United States. Another devastating event was the Columbine shooting. In 1999, two teenagers went on a shooting spree killing a teacher, twelve fellow students, and wounding twenty-four others. It is sad things like this happen, but people should not be surprised. With the law allowing us to own guns, these types of things will continue to happen.…
