How To Build Better Working Relationships With Adults

Within school, it is important to be able to build good relationships with the children you work with so that they feel comfortable in your company and feel that they are able to speak with you. The first step to achieving this would be to establish a mutual respect and to have clear rules in place so that the children understand what is expected of them and what they can expect from you. As a member of staff, you need to be able to adapt your own behaviour and communication skills in a manner that is age appropriate. It's important that the children feel secure, valued as an individual and as important as any other person within the school and your manner needs to demonstrate this. This will help you to get to know and understand the characters of each individual child and will help you to spot any problems or difficulties a child may be experiencing …show more content…
When working with adults we need to create an environment of mutual support and openness. In a school environment it is not possible to work independently and therefore you need to be able to be part of a team. We need to be professional in school and should be capable of supporting other adults in a practical and sensitive manner.
