GRAMMAR & COMPOSITION II
B.A. ADRIAN GUARDADO

How to be a good teacher Education in its general sense is a form of learning in which the knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people are transferred from one generation to the next through teaching, training, or research. Education frequently takes place under the guidance of others, but may also be autodidactic. Any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational. There are three forms of learning: formal education, informal education and non-formal education. Formal education is a system of schooling involve institutionalized teaching and learning in relation to a curriculum, which itself is established according to a predetermined purpose of the schools in the system. Schools systems are sometimes also based on religions, giving them different curricula. Who has the responsibility in this system is the teacher, this person knows that to educate is not easy. It is not just a simple task. It is not as if you want to train a dog or you want to manipulate a robot that you program to do what you want it to because Education goes beyond that is a gift from God. To be a teacher is an important labor, for this reason, it have to do it well; with this in mind is important to take into account some tips for not be only a teacher, the purpose is to be a good teacher. There are a lot of things that are necessaries to be a teacher like the passion that goes with it, enthusiasm; in other words, you have to love it, enjoy it and know it. How to do it includes: enjoying reading, developing values, and to be dominant.
First, a good teacher must have knowledge of his subject matter. A good teacher need to enlarge his/her general knowledge on culture, society, biology, geography… to provide students what they want to know. Beside, a good teacher must be a person who are open to change. He/she must know “the only real constant in life is change”. There is a place not only for tradition but also for new ways, new ideas and new methods. To be a good teacher, he/she is willing to learn from other peers and from his/her students. A good teacher need to know that his/her student are visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners. He/she are adept at creating presentation skills for many kind of learners. For instance, teachers are charged with the responsibility of providing students with specific content knowledge. A good teacher will know how to explain the content that he is teaching. In addition, a good teacher will understand that it is important to motivate and encourage his students to follow the same example. And how is the teacher going to fulfill all these points? Well. By reading. A teacher must enjoy reading because that is how he earns knowledge, vocabulary, ideas, and teaching methodologies. Second, every teacher helps his student to develop values; the formal education institutions which are functioned to create the younger generation is expected to increase its role in the formation of personality of students through increased intensity and quality of character education. Since the reformation of our national curriculum, teachers have been developing new methods in building the students’ character, which it is known better in schools as character education. Every great teacher makes the cultivation of thinking in a decent and human environment which is the primary goal of teaching. Encourages student questioning because questions encourage student and teacher thought. Every great teacher realizes that productive experience results from doing something with foresight, with a purpose in mind, then reflecting on the consequences. Las but not least, teacher recognizes that thinking is not separated from doing something with a purpose in mind; that mind is in the doing, not outside of it. It is very important that a teacher understands that besides giving a grade and completing a lesson, we deal with lives and that we should consider from time to time to spend time advising and helping a student to grow not only academically but as a human being. Moral values and life skill can be taught in a fun way using the media such as music, specifically songs which has a good moral values and life skill. Third, teachers are the people who can affect the child's eternity. The teachers are the role models for young children. They are all the time, directly and indirectly influencing their wards throughout the period in which they are in touch with the children. As the children are the future of any country, the models these children follow should be absolutely exemplary. Teachers are a one single community of elders who can have very far reaching effects on the younger generation. To some extent, I feel that, the teachers have a somewhat broader spectrum of influence on the children, even more than the parents. The children admire their teachers, adore them and copy them. Just for this reason, a teacher should be an adult who is a blend of all good qualities of head and heart, and of humanness. Teachers should be apparently and obviously absolute perfect human beings to be able to inculcate in the children, a desire to copy them. For the children the teacher has to be a perfect model as perfect as no one else in the eyes of the child. Teachers have to be very cautious in their dealings with the children. Teachers are not necessarily only those who teach children in a school or college or any other educational institution. Teachers can be considered as a very large and a mixed community of all those people, men and women whom children like to follow or copy. A teacher must teach with discipline and love that way he will be able to control and dominate a class.

Even though there are many contributing factors that can affect a student’s performance such as physical, psychological, sociological, and economical, it should be noted that no student enters school as a “failure”. It comes down to the processes and procedures that the teacher employs, which are the main cause of student’s success or failure (Lembo, as cited in Westwood, 2004, p. 79). An effective teacher will employ processes, procedure and attitudes that maximises understanding and enables a student to easily process and apply that learning to their daily lives. In general, education is a term often used to refer to formal education, which covers a range of experiences, from formal learning to the building of understanding and knowledge through day-to-day experiences. In fact, individuals receive informal education from a variety of sources, such as family members, peers, books and mass media. All of them have exerted a strong influence on informal education of the individual. On the other hand, throughout the processes of teaching and learning, education can also refer to a wide variety of discipline such as computer science, chemistry, health science, society and linguistics, etc. Undoubtedly, in almost all societies, attending school and receiving an education is extremely vital and necessary if one wants to achieve success or even want to obtain an entrance ticket to a better social ranking; however, common sense is sometimes hard to learn from the books directly¾one can have all the “book” knowledge in certain professional field, but formal education won’t get him or her far if a individual don’t know how to behave with his or her co-workers, superiors, and or even family members. In my understandings, education should be comprised by formal and informal studies, and should be carried out in the process through out ones’ lifetime. More importantly, education cannot be succeeded without motivation.…
