How Religion Has Impacted My Life
Growing up in a catholic school, going to church, and being surrounded by Christians has greatly impacted my life. Not noticing it much before, I now see how the majority of the people in my life consider faith the key to a successful life. Additionally, the only way to understand your faith is by reading the Bible. Not only had my parents encouraged me to read the Bible, but those of all different generations around me. My friend Christine, who is thirteen years old, agrees with my mother who is in her forties, and my grandparents who are in their seventies and eighties. I received the chance to ask them personally if they think reading the Bible is important, if they read the Bible, and their favorite Bible stories and lessons. Likewise, I got the chance to do so to myself. My friend Christine, who is thirteen years old, was more than willing to be interviewed about the Bible. She believes that it is very important to read the Bible to learn how it teaches you how to handle future situations in the best way possible. She reads the Bible often and has read several Bible stories. Offhandedly, she could recall the stories of Moses, Samson and Delilah, and Adam and Eve. One of her favorite stories, because it of its lesson, is …show more content…
She believed that it is very important to read the Bible because it is a good reminder of who we are and why we are here on Earth. Also, she said it gives you peace of mind, as well as guides you and gives you strength. She tries to read the bible as often as she can. There are many bible stories that she can recall, but her favorites are the Good Samaritan and the Sower and the Seed. However, her favorite lesson that she cherishes, is the story of Mary Magdalene. She is fond of the story of Mary Magdalene because it tells us that we should not judge others. Additionally, it tells us that God is here for the sinners and He will accept you back into His arms no matter what you

She often compares herself to people in the Bible. When she was younger she had trouble with spiritual accounts. For this she brings up 2 Corinthian 12. 9. This scripture tells that God's grace is enough for her. Then later she brings up Job 1. 15 that says “And I only am escaped alone to tell the News(221).” This scripture is significant to Mary because she feels as though she was alive because she was chosen to tell of the events that occurred during King Philip's War.…

Our society can increase faith by giving people something to have faith in and hope for. If our society can can have such a strong faith in something as strong as the Puritans did, it would unite our nation as one. We would benefit from this because it would unify us together and create a common interest among people. It would help give people direction in their life and help them make better decisions. Faith would also give people hope in their life and motivate them to do better. I think faith is important in any society or individual person to give them the will to live life to its fullest and get the best from it. Personally, I would benefit from faith because it will better motivate me and give me something to work for. I also am unsure of my path in this world but faith could help me find my place in the world and discover myself. Faith could also help if I am having a hard time in life or with something it can give me hope and reassurance of how great life can be. I think faith is an important in any society and can change people’s perspective on…

Throughout my life I have always been committed and passionate in what I do. My faith fell first on this list. From a very young age I knew the importance and growth that came from knowing God and being an active member of a church family. The growth I experienced in church manifested and trickled out into my everyday life including academics. Central Advent Christian Church set this foundation of growth as a young man which has allowed me to build upon this foundation.…

Religion gives people motivation when they are feeling lost; it gives people hope during tough times and gives them strength when they most need it. A rising issue has called for the attention of many: effects on brain development caused by religion. According to a study done by Amy Owen and her colleagues at Duke University, “individuals in the religious minority, or those who struggle with their beliefs, experience higher levels of stress.” This can cause stress hormones that are known to depress the volume of the hippocampus over time. The hippocampus is the central structure of the limbic system that is involved with emotion and memory formation (Newberg, 20ll). How is this affecting our society? Religious radicalism has become a new trend; an increase of terrorist attacks has our people in utter fear. We…

My first memory involving religion of any kind is when my grandmother was my temporary Sunday school teacher. This memory had absolutely nothing to do with reading the bible or praying or doing anything of that sort. I have no idea why I remember it either. The memory is of about four other kids and me sitting around the Sunday school table while my grandma sang a song about our ancestry and how it didn’t start with monkeys. The song went like this “I’m no kin to the monkey, the monkey’s no kin to me. I don’t know much about his ancestors but mine didn’t swing from a tree!” And it continued to repeat just like that. I will always remember this no matter what. Even now I can remember the exact flow of the song and the sound of my grandma’s voice.…

Because I believe the foundation of living is to serve others with the tools God has provided, I use the Bible as a guiding resource, which both she and her siblings were taught as children from the environment in which she was raised to think and to act. It is not until we are adults that we have a sense of individualism. One must define his/her own beliefs and values in life. We are unique just as God created us. One does not have to define who he/she is with scriptures in order to best understand his/her personal and professional beliefs. Our lives are influenced within our environments; our values and beliefs are a continuous growth. God provides individuals with the resources and the tools in life to strengthen our beliefs and validate our values.…

Growing up with my grandparents meant, in addition to lifelong allegiance to family, a strong religious set of values. I was sent to Catholic school along with my cousins, taken to mass every Sunday, and prayed the rosary in hopes of keeping me safe from sin. I do appreciate the cost relating to my education; however, I am afraid it only served to strengthen my current beliefs. Specifically, that religious intolerance is unacceptable. Religious beliefs are individual. No religion is correct or incorrect.…

Much of my upbringing was very traditional. I was taught to obey my parents and to make them proud of my actions. From an early age religion, the union of family, harmony, education, and truthfulness were instilled in my life. These values were all very important to my parents and now I see myself teaching the same values to my children. Religion played a big role in my upbringing. I wouldn’t say that my parents were very strict about attending church and living a Christian life, but more so that I should have faith in God and believe that anything is possible with God in my life. So from the age of four I was placed in Catechism of the Catholic Church, which is basically religious education. Catechism was just as important as my general education in school, so I attended all the way up to the end of high school.…

More than 40% of Americans claim to attend church or synagogue regularly, and only about 15% say they never attend. Easter is one of two times a year, along with Christmas, when pews are filled to capacity in many churches, bringing to mind the question: Just why do Americans attend church? Some of the reasons include: to worship God to establish a social connection within the local community (believers or fellowship),to make one's self feel better, serve penance, sacrifice, etc.,to demonstrate goodness, deepen faith, obtain salvation, or to continue tradition.Hurt is way up there on the list. At times we find ourselves reeling from some of the most painful wounds imagation. Loss of a loved one to death, loss of a family, loss . It's only natural to seek healing in God, and it's amazing how God uses some of his dear people to be channels of God's healing, hope-filled, non-judgmental love. I can't begin to count the times I've seen people's hurts healed within the context of support from the church.…

There is a great debate concerning the role of religion in social change. Whereas some sociologists believe that religion acts as a conservative force, thus inhibiting social change whether that is positive or negative, others believe that religion is a radical force and a major contributor to social change. As expected many sociologists have taken the middle ground, arguing that religion can be both encouraging and preventing social change.…

I was born into a Muslim family and raised up a nominal Muslim. I grew up believing Christianity is just an alternative religion to Islam. Sometime in 1999, in Lagos, Nigeria, I was invited to a church – Redeem Christian Church Of God - by a female friend. While in the church I heard the gospel preached to me and was deeply moved by the words I heard. I responded to the alter call made by the preacher and was told am now born again.…
