How People Should Not Choose "Made in China"
“Made in China” nowadays is the most worldwide recognizable label. Since 70 decades the 1970s, the Chinese economy has been performing dramatically, plus with the support of Globalization and overseas outsourcing waves, “Made in China” has been becoming a global empire. The goods manufactured in China are known as variable, updated, and above all, affordable products. However, many people, including me, have starting doubting the quality of cheap import, typically “Made in China” products. My concern has been increasing since 2008, when I was in college in VietNam. My friend studying Public Health in Tianjin had to take a urine test several days because she drunk milk everyday, after a “Dirty Chinese milk” had been exposed bad milk imported from China. Not only In The United State, I am from VietNam, another like other developing country countries where people these days do not mind spending more money to buy stuff manufactured in more truthful origins, such as Japan or Germany. And I think Americans are sharing the similar concern about cheap imports from China. Understanding this trend is very important to me, because I am studying international logistic and supply chain, that mostly focus on Export- import, and overseas outsourcing. This is the reason encouraging me to research about cheap import. In addition, because I am studying in an American college, so I would focus more on cheap import 's impact to the American economy.

I have been mentioning “Made in China” as an typical example of cheap import, because many results of the keyword “ cheap import” are led to “Made in China” by seeking tools, like google. But it does not mean China is the only origin of cheap imports. The first thing that I want to collect is some date associated with the American foreign trade to figure out a general picture of the export and import to the US. Of course the more current numbers, the more accurate analysis, so I looked for the data provided by the US Census in 2012.

In the United States, consumers are constantly purchasing items from foreign countries without acknowledging where, how, and when it is produced. In my reading, the book “Travels of a t-shirt in the global economy: An economist examines the markets, power and politics of world trade” author Pietra Rivoli explains many difficulties in the production of her t-shirt. The production has conflicts such as the global tensions from states, markets and social actors. I argue exports from China that are imported into the United States have a beneficial effect on both economies.…

Brazil banned imports of Xia goods from China because there was allegations and unconfirmed speculation pertaining to China’s use of hazardous materials (for example, lead paint and potentially carcinogenic plastic and rubbers) to manufacture toys cheaply, which sparked consumer panic around the globe. The imports of Xia goods were banned until the test was performed to guarantee that these goods do not possess any health risk. The Chinese government completely refuted this claim and fearing that other country might follow the similar pattern, took the matter before WTO for resolution.…

A single trip to Wal-Mart can show the power of China 's economy. The tags on most of the retail items in the store have the familiar "Made in China" stamp. By simply watching the news over the past decade, Americans know that the reason the U.S. imports so much of its merchandise from China is because Chinese companies can pay their workers far less to manufacture goods than American companies can.…

Frontline offers two harshly contrasting images: one of Circleville, Ohio, where the local TV manufacturing plant has closed down; the other -- a sea of high rises in the South China, Shenzhen. For Wal-Mart, China has become the cheapest, most reliable production platform in the world, the source of up to $25 billion in annual imports that help the company deliver everyday low prices to 100 million customers a week. But while some economists credit Wal-Mart's single-minded focus on low costs with helping contain U.S. inflation, others charge that the company is the main force driving the massive overseas shift to China in the production of American consumer goods, resulting in hundreds of thousands of lost jobs and a lower standard of living here at home…

Some Americans have been voicing their concerns about the negative impacts of cheap labor and clothing from China on our country's textile and apparel companies. These "groans" by American corporations and others are identical to the concerns raised in earlier centuries by British manufacturers about cheap cotton from India and/or the New England area of the United States. They're also identical to the concerns raised in the late 1800s by New England manufacturers as the industry moved to the Southern states, and the concerns raised by Southern manufacturers in the early 20th century as the industry moved to Japan, and the concerns raised by Japanese manufacturers in the later 20th century as the industry moved to Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan,…

For more than a decade now, manufacturers have flocked into emerging markets under the banner of globalization to access low-cost sourcing in high-growth economies. Many of these organizations have established fairly successful operations and realized significant cost arbitrage. Just below the surface, however, sizable sourcing risks—from contaminated pet food to lead-based paint in toys—fill headlines with dramatic falls from operational grace, leaving a wake of bludgeoned brand names and skeptical consumers to question the wisdom of offshoring.…
