How My Hero Influenced My Life
On March 17th 1998, she held in her hands a ten pound baby boy. Gazing down into the baby’s soft face and dark eyes, she knew that Tyler James Toussaint would be her pride and joy, her center of life, and would put everything she had to give this child a good life. From that moment on, she was entitled Mother, and her priority was to make sure Tyler had a better life than her own. Tyler grew fast and in no time his first word slipped out of his mouth. She knew then that it was time to introduce her child to education. Sitting everyday with an impatient Tyler, she made him read and study simple concepts to build his intelligence. Slaving away helping Tyler while he obnoxiously tried to resist, she kept him on a tight schedule not straying away …show more content…
Three years later, Tyler maintained a 93 average which he would have never achieved without the deep rooted trait of hard work instilled into him by his mother. Tyler didn’t acknowledge that either. He grumbled at the fact that they had a writing supplement, and read through the choices. Then his eyes stopped upon the question, “how has your hero influenced your life?” Tyler sat and pondered if this was the question that would get him in. People that he could choose for that supplement ran through his head, but then he stopped when he thought about his mother. Tyler thought about all the things that his mother had did for him. He closed his computer and thought more about it for days. Tyler was flooded with the realization of all the sacrifice his mother did for him and how it all influenced his life. He realized that he wasn’t alone in his life because his mom was there every step of the way. Tyler sat back down, and opened up his laptop to start to write the essay, but the only thing he could write was… “Thank you

I am convinced that you know what the hero’s journey is, only don’t you know it by name. The Hero’s Journey or Monomyth is a formula or a structure presented by Joseph Campbell in his book called The Hero of a Thousand Faces (1949). In this book, Campbell describes twelve stages of a narrative, and comes up with a conclusion that in great and successful narratives, the characters are all the same. Therefore, these stages can be applied in (almost) every narrative, from cinema or literature.…

Everyone faces obstructions, both massive and minuscule, from physical hindrances to stubborn mentalities. The process to overcome challenges and return “renewed” is known as a hero’s journey. In Kung Fu Panda, released in 2008, the full cycle of a hero’s journey is portrayed through a panda named Po. Big, bumbling, and kung fu loving, Po’s life is plagued by dissatisfaction with himself and seemingly unfeasible hopes. For all his life, Po has aspired to master kung fu, like the Furious Five, who are renowned martial artists.…

Living on the miniscule island of Takeshima, Japan, James could never go further than his 123,000 square foot island that was measured by himself. Every day, after his chores were done, James would fill his precious backpack with high-tech tools that were often used by professionals during the most perilous of adventures. Then he would walk out of his house and travel every square inch of the island to see that nothing had changed and that there were no secret passages to any new land. Every day James would face the disappointment of not having his own grand adventure. It was a sad life.…

My mother never went to college. Despite—or perhaps [because] of—her lack of collegiate experience, she was a powerful influence on my ever-present desire for academic distinction. For her children, anything besides “extraordinary” was simply not an option. The constant pressure meshed painfully well with America’s flawed education system, which—not unlike my well-intentioned mother—continually creates an unhealthy environment of apathy in the face of competition. For the duration of my traditional education, I made intense efforts for a false, unfulfilling concept of academic success. I sacrificed my emotional well-being again and again for fleeting validation from any surrounding adults, in a desperate lifelong attempt to prove my worth…

His hands started to tremble. Looking up at Josie he studied her. She had a look of pure concentration on her face as she wrote everything down. He couldn’t help but envy her. Sure her life wasn’t perfect but it was a hell of a lot better than his. She could choose her own career without being screamed at for hours on end. She could get one bad grade without being told she was a failure. She didn’t have to be perfect, and she was beginning to slowly understand that. That was something John would kill for. Even his best wasn’t enough. John had tried his best to please his father; he studied harder than anyone else he knew. He’d sacrificed so much to try and make his father proud, but nothing was ever good enough. John closed his eyes and leaned his head back thinking of all the times he was put down by his father. Pain welled up from deep inside him.…
