How Much Sugar Lab Report
The purpose of the lab is to find how much sugar is in a potato. I have found that my hypothesis “If I change the amount of sucrose in the solution, then percent change will be a negative percent and show me how much sugar is in a potato which is about 0.5g of sugar because increasing sucrose solutions outside the cell creates a hypertonic solution or hypotonic cell and the water inside the potato will go to the sugar outside the potato.” was proven wrong from the graph of my data which showed with a line that falls on zero that that is where it is isotonic and that is how much sugar is in the potato.

    The way to get the full results of this lab was through the process of osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of water across a membrane into a more concentrated solution to reach an equilibrium. When regarding cells osmosis has three different terms that are used to describe their concentration. The first of these words is isotonic. Cells in an isotonic solution show that the water has no net movement and the amount of water that goes in is the same that goes out. Isotonic comes from the root iso, which means equal. This makes sense because the definition of isotonic is: same concentration. The second out of three words is hypotonic. Cells in a hypotonic solution make the water move into the cell to spread out the cells solutes to eventually reach an equillibrium. Hypotonic comes from the root word hypo, which means low/below. The actual definition for hypotonic is: less concentrated. Hypertonic is the last out of the three words.     We started the lab by cutting the potato core length (44 mm). Each potato core are placed in test tubes. The test tubes have different salt concentration, test tube 1 has 0% salt concentration, test tube 2 has 0.625% salt concentration, test tube 3 has 1.25% salt concentration, test tube 4 has 2.5% salt concentration and test tube 5 has 5% salt concentration.
