“The only way that we can live, is if we grow. The only way that we can grow is if we change. The only way that we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we can become exposed is if we throw ourselves out into the open. Do it. Throw yourself.” ― C. JoyBell C. Are Americans shifting in the view on gun control? Well, considering that our minds are always changing, it would be almost impossible not to shift our views every once in a while. We will always have people in this world who wish to take human life, and they will find a way to do so. In order to have balance, there has to be evil in order to have good, dark in order to have light. But, we can limit the amount of evil that we are exposed to, and one way is through gun control. In my opinion, Americans have never had a true agreement on what should be done and our views are somewhat circumstantial.…

Not only as a teacher but also a role model for children a teacher is expected to present themselves in a professional manner. Juli Kwikkel (8/21/2003) stated that “you don’t want to have to guess who’s the teacher and who’s the student”. There are even some districts that are beginning to implement dress codes due to the issues worsening as new and younger teachers are entering the work place. This new trend is becoming more popular with schools and is going beyond just the students. Especially in districts where there is a dress code for students and not for employees this will lead to student rebelling against the dress codes that are in place. This is primarily due to the fact that many students will feel as if why should they have to dress a certain way when the staff can dress in street clothes. The rules that are implemented at Alleghany Highlands Public Schools (8/21/2003) state “dress should reflect the professional position of the employee.” Although opinions are different, the general consensus is that teachers should not be wearing things such as belly shirts, jeans, flip flops, and t-shirts to work. This should be left for the students. Rather they should be wearing a more professional and mature type of clothing, such as dress pants and a button up shirt or a skirt that is of an appropriate length. As described by Beth Lewis teachers should wear clothing that is loose fitting and…

This study shows that many places with high gun ownership tend to have more firearm deaths, due to the high ownership of guns. In addition, high ownership of guns can ruin society, causing more deaths and more violent crimes. “Higher ownership of guns in a state is linked to more firearm robberies, more firearm assaults and more homicides in general” (livescience.org). As mentioned in the above paragraph, instead of deaths, there are many situations where high ownership will cause other problems like robbery, homicides, murder and sexual assault;…

At the turn of the century, the NCAA began questioning how schools were required to measure academic success among athletes. Since the mid-1990s, the NCAA had been forced to use federal graduation rates that were thought to be misleading (Dodd). In 2003, the NCAA introduced the Academic Performance Rate (APR) program to oversee student athlete’s educational prowess (NCAA). The APR is a real-time calculation and gives a better perspective to athletic performance in the classroom. The NCAA provided the following example as to how schools determine if they measure up to the “magic number”...…
