How Is Odysseus A Hero
Odysseus has done some not so clever actions, but he has also done some heroic ones. Some people believe that Odysseus was too prideful and foolish, but I believe that he should be defined as a hero. Whenever Odysseus and his crew faced many challenges, Odysseus always looked out for his shipmates and would help them when needed. He showed loyalty and cared for his crew and I believe that is a trait that heroes should have.
Odysseus has the many traits that a hero possesses. One of the traits he contains is cleverness. One of the times that odysseus showed cleverness was when Odysseus and his crew were searching for their home and they came upon an island with Cyclops. When they were captured, Odysseus hid his men under the rams to get

Everyone has different personality traits. Odysseus has both hero qualities and not so heroic qualities. This epic poem is called “The Odyssey”. It was written by Homer, an ancient Greek poet. Epic hero qualities are traits the hero character of a story has. They include strength, loyalty, intelligence, and courage. One would think Odysseus has many epic hero traits, but he also has many traits that are not heroic. There are many examples of his heroic qualities. Something that shows loyalty is when he says, “So we moved out, sad in the vast offing, having our precious lives, but not our friends.” This shows that Odysseus is loyal because talking about not having his friends anymore and being with his men. He also has strength. “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under the rowing benches…” shows this because it takes strength to tie three men down to a ship. When he shows courage, he says “We beached there, and I told the crew to stand by and keep watch over the ship: as for myself I took my twelve best men and went ahead.” in which one would notice Odysseus had the courage to go see who the enormous man was when he reached Cyclops Island and told his men to watch the ship for him.…

However, the fact that Odysseus does have some flaws cannot be rejected. These flaws include the fact that he loses a lot his men (Book IX 59-61, IX 287-290, X 118-133, XII 243-246, XII 416-419) and the fact that he boasts about himself especially when he reveals his name after defeating the Cyclops (Book IX 500-504). Nevertheless, this does nothing but adds to the idea of Odysseus being more evidence of him being a hero. He is a mortal hero, a human, and humans have…

I believe Odysseus to be a hero, because all his flaws are what make him human. He is not a god, so he will make mistakes. His intelligence saves him and his men’s lives, and he does not give up. He was a great leader and was willing to pay a price for knowledge. He recognized that knowledge really is power, and decides to learn everything he can on his journey home. He also acknowledges that sometimes lying, cheating, and stealing might sometimes be necessary. That is what makes him human. “He achieves both kleos and nostos in the end and doesn’t have to die for either”…

Heros must influence society by proving how doing the right thing and being a commerable citizen leads to a happy things. When we accept someone as a hero, we also accept their flaws. Odysseus just has too many flaws to accept as a true…

His intelligence and strength allow him to get out of difficult situations, but his one flaw that was bringing Odysseus down was his hubris. The whole time Odysseus was trying to get home, he had many opportunities to display these traits, for example giving Polyphemus the wine to put him asleep showed his intelligence because this was the best way to injure the giant while causing the least amount of death. When he hung from the fig tree and waited for his ship, or being trapped in Polyphemus’s cave are all obstacles that he had to overcome. Odysseus overcame these obstacles because he is a hero and heroes overcome problems that come their way. Odysseus is not a superhero however, he is just a normal person that overcomes mistakes and problems that he is faced with. Everyone knows about superheroes and heroes and that they share similar principles except anyone can be a hero, but no one can be a…
