How Is Duryodhana Unconquerable?
The words that Duryodhana uttered to Drona his teacher clearly reveal the diffidence that took over him suddenly. This is in spite of the fact that Duryodhana knew well that Bheeshma is unconquerable who can embrace death at his own will. He also knew Drona the great teacher is also unconquerable because he is the most powerful and knowledgeable archer and he also had Karna who was one of the greatest warriors on his side. They also had larger army when compared to that of the Paandavas. But in spite of all these, he felt that the Paandava army is superior to theirs and he tells Drona that the Paandava army seems to be stronger than theirs in spite of the fact that the Kaurava army is numerically superior. At this juncture the grandsire Bheeshma (who led the army of the Kauravaas), the eldest and the most powerful of the entire Kuru clan (Kauravas and the Paandavas) blew his conch (Called Dyuoden) that roared like a lion and this cheered Duryodhana (who was feeling terribly nervous and diffident).

Tatah shankaash cha bheryash cha panavaanaka-gomukhaah sahasaivaabhyahanyanta sa shabdah tumulo bhavat // 1.13//
13. Instantaneously all the conches, drums, cymbals, tabors and trumpets were blared out at once from the Kaurava side with tremendous sound that echoed throughout the battlefield.
