Tom also has a friend named Joe, who isn’t the best influence on him. With the help of Huck and Joe, Tom ran away from home and became a thief. Tom, Huck, and Joe did criminal things to survive on their own, but they …show more content…
She tried her hardest to make Tom a better person, but he was very stubborn. Tom ran away from home to become a pirate with Huck Finn and Joe two of his friends who were horrible influences on him. Aunt Polly tried to make him whitewash a fence, but with Tom being so clever and cunning convinced the local kids to do all the work for him. Aunt Polly came out to find that the fence had been whitewashed three times instead of just one. She was very impressed with Tom, who she assumed had done all the work for himself. At one point in this story in about chapter twenty or twenty one a religious revival swept through the town. Tom became religiously for a short while. The local preacher or whatever he was dying and Tom decided that he didn’t want to be religious anymore because he couldn’t drink, cuss, or smoke, however when became Unreligious he didn’t even want to drink, cuss, or smoke anymore. Tom now had no friends because everyone became religious so Tom went back to his old friends Huck and Joe and together they started to steal again. These two friends are not the best examples from Tom who already doesn’t have the best morals. These friends were the only people Tom felt like he could trust because he was scared if people found he knew who really killed doc he would get killed by Injun Joe. These friends had good influences on Tom and bad ones. In the end Tom has grown up a lot since the beginning of the book. I look forward to seeing what happens next with Tom later on in the

During the pre-civil war era, southern America was prevalent with slavery and racism towards African Americans. As a result, young children would be exposed to the racism and generate hate directed towards the slaves. This ideology heavily influenced the protagonist, Huck, in the novel even though his natural instinct told him that the slave hunters and owners were in the wrong for their intentions towards a slave named Jim. Huck constantly second guesses himself; hence, he is unsure of what to do in most situations until he is put on the spot, then thinking impulsively, he makes the better decision. Many times in the novel, the setting has a large negative influence on Huck through the law, the way of life, and the opinions of the other characters…

Huckleberry Finn is a novel of the pastoral genre written by Mark Twain in 1885, a time when slavery was rampant. The novel follows the journey of the protagonist, a white boy named Huck Finn who coincidently begins a journey with a run-away slave Jim, filled with trials and tribulations. Although this may be a coincident the pair slowly form a relationship described as a friendship and others even go to the extent of describing it as father-son relationship. One of the many ways in which the friendship can be viewed is the fact that it is a pure and natural friendship as shown by Huck who claims he wouldn’t want to be “nowhere else but here” hence displaying the satisfaction and content he feels with the situation of being friends. However other aspects of the novel allow the reader to describe the friendship as corrupt rather than pure due to the way in which Huck refers to Jim by the use of the term “nigger”, an offensive term used by society to belittle black people.…
