How Does Technology Affect Relationships
Communication has shifted from primarily technological use to face-to-face, especially, as Violet’s Feed starts malfunctioning. This has a huge impact over Titus’s and Violet's relationship because face-to-face conversion made them confess their feelings, and confronting their feelings in this way causes them to ostracize each other. Furthermore, Technology has a huge affect. Face-to-face conversion became the main processes of communication since Technological communication made Titus feel empty as Violet’s condition worsened, thus he did respond to any of her ‘m-chats’. For example, Titus who treats people with selfishness without knowing, “‘You can’t blame me.” “Why?” “I didn’t do this” “You took her to that nightclub” “She-but she wanted to live. She told me she wanted to live.” He hissed, pointing at her, “Does this count.(Anderson, 289)” This establishes that the Feed has made Titus so self absorbed; he can’t even use empathy to figure out he has done wrong to Violet . Furthermore, this shows the reader that he may lack basic social skills like sharing and empathy, which is a huge impact over many of his relationships. For example, ‘“You made her apologize for sickness. For her courage. You made her feel sorry for dying. (Anderson, 291) ”’ This further demonstrates how technology has impacted him because he couldn’t see that until was pointed out to him like a child being scolded by a parent. This influence affect who he is and how he acts (The only reason technology seems to have a major effect on Violet and her father relationship with Titus is because everyone else is the same way, and doesn’t notice or care about it).
