I learned that trends like the development of technology help and deter the productivity of police work. The use of cameras specially cell phone cameras can severely impact work of the police. Camera recordings do not fully grasp the full content but feature only half the picture. The release of these videos can hinder investigations and pose a negative light on police as a whole. Nonetheless, technology possess many positive attributes such as being able to collect evidence that can be used for further analysis or presented in court. The cameras can also protect the officers and presents the evidence as a liability.…

Anastacia, I agree that it is completely mind-blowing to think of handling things without the technology we have come to rely on. When I started as a dispatcher, we didn’t have things like mobile mapping programs, or GPS tracking. You had to listen to what the units said, remember where everyone was, where they were going and what they were doing. I do agree that policing is far more technologically advance now than it was even ten years ago. However, I do feel that all the technological advances do have some disadvantages. When the system fails, and believe me that does happen on occasion, those without the “old school” knowledge can be at a loss on how to proceed without the ability to use a computer or Google. Simple things like being…

Third, police departments will have to create new policies about what things are officers allowed to do and what things they are not allowed to do while on the patrol car as well as when is it appropriate to use the patrol car in self-driven mode and when is it appropriate to use the patrol car in manual mode (Schoonmaker, 2014, pg.…
