How Does Mary Cassatt Portray True Beauty In Art?
The piece of Art I chose to reflect on is named “Young mother sewing” c.1893 by Mary Cassatt. I am very fond of the work of Cassatt, and the way she portrays true beauty within her art. Cassatt is also a very inspirational painter in the French impressionism era, reflecting on social issues within the women community around her time. I chose this piece because it has a powerful inspiration to me, as well as the use of warm colours and a very detailed painting.
Firstly, when I looked at this painting I was automatically drawn to it. The art itself, reminds me of the times when my mother would sew at home, and I, would be the little girl leaning on her lap watching her. I also felt an emotion of happiness as it made me remember the power and

The smooth brush strokes that were used on the dress and hair of the child and mother, give a warm feeling when viewing this piece. Cassatt also used positive space within this painting, as the mother and child are in the foreground, and the trees seen through the window are faint in the background. The painting is not scattered, which would make it hard to depict. The child is still and content, but the mother is shown as moving. She is shown moving because of her hands in the position of sewing a thread, or knitting. This still image of the child gives a very balanced feel to the painting as they are both in the middle of the frame, and not off to the side, which may portray the mother as unimportant. With the mother being right in the center of the painting, she gives strong feminine role of protection.
“Young woman sewing” is a great depiction of an powerful mother and her impact on her child. I am very inspired by this painting, it has great meaning to me that I can relate to with my own experiences. I believe Mary Cassatt was a very inspiration painter in her time as she accomplished many things a man cannot accomplish, for example; sharing the bond between a mother and

Del Kathryn Barton’s trademark style of contemporary design and illustrative style are used effectively to create a motherly love emotion within the painting. Although there is a two dimensional appearance about each singular figure, stacking them together makes a three dimensional theme throughout the painting and with the use of line and detail in the foreground adds to these dimensions.…

I absolutely love this piece. I love the detailed story behind it as well. Although the piece I choose was not very similar I wanted to discuss the similarity between our artist. My artist Lilly Martin Spencer was well known for her paintings of women. She was also daring, not for nude pieces, but the humor of domestic work that she evoked.…

I absolutely love this painting! It seems so vibrant and fresh with color. There is not a single thing that turns me away from it. This painting makes me feel surprisingly happy and cheerful. I believe due to the pops of very bright different colors it would make anyone smile. In my opinion it reminds me of a beautiful stained class or a Rubik’s cube. I don 't believe I have seen another piece of artwork that resembles "Lovejoy". I love the fact that every piece of art she creates has a…

Another reason why this painting is a masterpiece is because of the meaning of the painting. Nobody really understands the exact meaning of what this art represents. I heard some critics express that everyone wonders what the lady in black is starring at, and why is she so important in this painting. People also question the monkey that she is holding, what can the monkey mean. To me this painting represents tranquility, and peace. Just looking at this painting I could see that everyone is relaxed. Everyone one is just enjoying a quiet sunny day with almost everyone looking in the same direction. The way the people are dressed show that they are sophisticated people. I enjoy watching this painting because - feel as thought I can just live in a place like that. This painting is really good for a decoration piece in your house. Your visitors…

Looking at the basic characteristics determines the artist’s style. Vermeer distinctly places background lines that fade into the vanishing which happens to be the woman’s finger, which helps in balancing the painting. In another attempt to balance the painting, Vermeer placed the balance point precisely in the middle of the painting. He also makes the woman a positive shape, meaning she is at the for-front of the painting, while the work of art and jewelry are perceived as negative shapes, meaning they are in the background. Vermeer also uses light to enhance this painting. The light seems to aggrandize the woman, making her the focal point of this work. He uses different types of paints to create wool like texture of the woman’s orange dress. He understood the concepts of different colors; for example, using the lighter color orange dress under the dark blue shawl, gave him a chance to lighten the painting. The size of the painting behind the woman suggests that the woman is small, actually making everything in the work smaller than it. Implied motion is shown in the painting also, by the woman holding the balance, in the process of waiting for it to reach equality. By combining these characteristics, one can determine…

Today we will be discussing a painting called “The Boating Party.” To start off let’s first meet the artist. Mary Cassatt was born on May 22, 1844 in Allegheeny City, Pennsylvania. She was the fourth of five children born to Katherine Kelso Johnston and Robert Simpson Cassat who was a stockbroker and land speculator. During Mary's childhood, her family moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and then to the Philadelphia area. Her family viewed travel as an important part of her education. During the next 5 years she visited many of Europe's capital cities, learned German and French, and received instruction in drawing and music. Mary's first introduction to the great artists of France most likely occurred at the Paris World's Fair of 1855. Two of these artists, Degas and Pissarro, would later be her teachers.…

Artists of different time periods have made it clear that social movements and happenings have a great deal of importance in their work. Whether it is sculptures, paintings on walls in buildings like churches, or on canvas, the way that social movements and the ways in which society has changed their ways of looking at things, in particular women, have been depicted in artwork for centuries. In various forms of art throughout history, women are shown as sex symbols, weak, as servants to men and as housewives, men are depicted as being leaders, masculine, breadwinners, and decision-makers. Simple because society as a whole for the most part believed that way, doesn’t mean it was unheard of for women to seek their rights, however, in most cases, women continued to be seen in those ways in various medias though out time.…

I chose the painting Autumn Rhythm 1950 by Jackson Pollock. When I first saw the painting, I knew from the start that this was the masterpiece perfect for this project. My initial response to this painting was confusion. I did not understand it; I did not know what I was looking at. I thought to myself, is there something I’m supposed to look for? It seemed impossible to find something due to the numerous slobs of paint everywhere. I did not understand how this could even be a masterpiece.…

    The Human Experience

The art work that stands out most to me is one that portrays a young boy as a soldier in the US Army. The human experience from this could be expressed as one of many, love, loss, pain, hope, despair, values, beliefs and as we hope not but even death. I think the artist had love, loss and pain in mind with the painting. This is meaningful to my life because I feel that this is a portrait of myself as a young boy. I joined the US Army at seventeen, finished my basic training, school house training and was shipped off to Iraq with my unit before I was even close to being eighteen. I believed in what I was doing, I lost a lot of family and some really great friends in that war. I too had a picture taken with my uniform and full battle rattle, as we called the bullet proof vest, on. In that picture I was all smiles but honestly I was extremely scared and felt almost alone. This picture shows a young man with the same uniform on smiling. It really takes me back in time and allows me to see what war did to the once innocent young smiling boy that I was. I still to this day believe in all I have done, know that somewhere in there I have done them for the right and values of America but still it bothers me now. It also makes me fear for the young boy in the picture, fear for the outcome that will happen.…
