Different Jewish scriptures take different stances on the topic. Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,” which ensues a sort of presence of a spirit or what have you, that exists before birth. However, Exodus 21:22 says that if two men are fighting and strike a pregnant woman, and she miscarriages, but she is not further injured, they will pay a fine determined by a judge as though the fetus is the woman’s property. These laws seem out of place, considering the mostly conservative government in Israel. The fact that these laws were put in place seems to further the notion that Judaism is leaning towards being for abortion, especially when the birth will endanger the mother.

It’s tough to classify a single belief that a religion as a whole might hold, especially with the nearly fifteen million Jews (Kempinski), it is impossible to state a definitive stance on abortion for them all. With the differing views from text, and voice alike, it's hard to even classify a majority. There has to be differing opinions from different people, because that’s how people
