How Does Golf Relate To My Life Essay
Arnold Palmer once said about golf, “It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening.” Golf is full of oxymorons and irony, which is frustrating but also somewhat addicting. Golfers like to say that golf is a reflection of life, with its sudden and unpredictable turns, because in life there will be bad days, and we have to learn to pick ourselves up. Playing golf has been a rewarding experience for me, and it will help me as I transition to my new life in college. In today’s job market, it is essential to have a college education, but college, to me, is more than getting a good job. When I set off next August to Bellarmine University, I am going because I want to grow my character and learn about the world. First of all, I must make a confession: I have never spent more than a few days away from my home and family. From my years of playing golf, I know I have the fortitude and attitude to be independent, but the thought of leaving my home for several months is still daunting. College will give me the opportunity to experience culture and history that I would never find in my community. Bellarmine University really emphasizes studying abroad, a prospect that really appeals to me. Being an avid reader, I have read about a myriad of places around the globe, which I can only imagine and long to see. The community I live in now lacks diversity and excitement; the thought of seeing different cultures and hearing different languages excites me. Golf is a global sport, and I have dreamt about playing on the historic St. Andrews course, where so many great golfers have teed up. Having the opportunity to see the world, I will have a better understanding of how the world works, and I will be better at serving those around
