How Does Exercise Affect Heart Rate
Exercise affects all people differently, specifically a person’s heart rate and blood pressure. After exercising your heart rate should increase and your blood pressure should decrease (Blood Pressure Association, 2008). The purpose of this lab was to determine which level of exercise would have the greatest impact on affected pulse and blood pressure. In this lab we tested how exercise affected heart rate by testing a random group of people with different body types and exercise levels to see how different types of exercise would affect their pulse and blood pressure. We had 11 subjects randomly placed into four different groups. Group 1 had to do a slow easy exercise, group 2 did a fast easy exercise, and group 3 did a slow hard exercise while group 4 did a fast and hard exercise. It was confirmed that group 4 did have the greatest increase in heart rate but there was no correlation between the data to prove that group 4 had the biggest difference in blood pressure. To further our data we would look deeper into the correlation between the fitness level of the participants and the difference in their heart rate. For some individuals in our data exercise affected their heart rate, but not as much for others. This is seen in group 4, where individual 10 worked out and still had a higher difference in heart rate then individual 11. Some errors that could have occurred to result in this data could’ve been individual 11 not following the claps to know when to take another step and fell behind causing their heart rate to not increase as much. Another error that could have occurred is that the pulse was counted incorrectly and the counter missed beats, or that the heart rate was taken too long after the initial exercise that the pulse was able to slow down with the individual

    The effect of exercise/physical activity on pulse, blood pressure, and respiration rate was tested on biology students. The results of the experiment showed that each of these parameters is affected after engaging in 2 minutes of physical activity. We found that average pulse, mean arterial pressure, and respiratory rate were all higher in males than in females. But, it was also found that women have a longer time to recovery for all these parameters. The reasons for higher pulse, MAP and blood pressure, and respiratory rate could be because on average men have an overall higher normal blood pressure than women. Also, I would assume that a reason women have a longer recovery time than men could be due to hormonal differences. Factors not recorded that could have affected outcomes of the experiment could be that the sample size and distribution, human error of calculation, and mechanical error.…

    The main aim of the practical was to assess, what affects did light exercise have on the systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart and respiration rate, tidal volume, minute volume and percentage of gas. The readings were taken before exercise, during exercise and after exercise. Blood pressure is defined as the amount of pressure exerted on the vessels walls, during blood flow. Blood pressure can be measured using a sphygmomanometer. The upper value indicates the systolic pressure; this is the highest level of pressure obtained. This is usually 120mm Hg in healthy adult. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure achieved before the aortic valves reopen, which is usually between 70- 80mm (Barbara, J.C. 2005). The heart rate is the number of beats that is pumped by the heart per minute. It’s measured by taking the pulse rate. Respiratory rate is the number of breath exhaled and inhaled in a single breath. Respiratory rate can be measured simply by observing the person’s chest and stomach rise and fall. It is usually measured in breath per minute. Tidal volume is the amount of air inhaled or exhaled in a single breath. In an average human, the tidal volume is about 0.5litres, while the lungs can hold up to ten times more than this. Minute volume, is the amount of air or fluid moved per minute.…

    I predicted that if sleep effects pulse rate then a person who has less than six hours of sleep will have a higher pulse rate. The purpose of this expericment was to find out if sleep affects your heart rate. The independent variable in the experiment was the ammount of sleep the subject had and the dependent varibale was the heart rate after exercise. The results proved my hypothesis correct. As you can see in tables 1 and 2, people with less than six hours of sleep had a higher pulse rate after exercising. Our experiment was very similar to the one described in “An Experimental Study of the Differentiation of Temperaments on a Basis of Rate and Strength “. They did all the same steps as our experiment just different steps during recovery time. Their results also has the same outcome as ours where the people who had less sleep had a higher pulse rate. Our bodies can’t run without sleep. Lack of sleep can be very detramental to the health of your heart. Lack of sleep has been associated with worsening of blood pressure and cholesterol, all risk factors for heart disease and stroke.     In performing this experiment, students apprehend and grasp the concept of the “scientific method” and its segments. The scientific method is analytically preceded by researchers to answer a question(s). First, the analyst states the problem based on contemplations. Next, a hypothesis is formed, which means the analyst made an educated guess (solution) to the problem. Before an experiment is performed the analyst has to make a prediction. A prediction is what the person assumes the outcome of the experiment will be, if their hypothesis is precise. When making a prediction it is stated in a manner of “if…..then…” Then the analyst tests the hypothesis. The experiment is manipulated so that changes to one variable cause another to interchange in order to fit your hypothesis. Variables are facts or conditions that are changed.
