How Does Drunk Driving Affect Our Life
Drunk driving has a tremendous effect on the lives of people. The effect of drunk driving can influence the lives of those drinking the family of the victim and even an entire community. If someone drinks and drives with blood alcohol levels of eight hundredths of a gram or .08 grams and above or the point at which a person is legally drunk they are at least 6 times more likely to get involved in an accident than if you were to drive under the same circumstances while you were sober. On average one becomes drunk after around 3 drinks in an hour whether it is 3 beers 3 glasses of wine or 3 shots of hard liquor, after that it only takes one additional drink per hour to stay drunk. If you are found guilty of driving under the influence or DUI while you are under 21 years of age you can have your license revoked for eighteen months for the first offence and thirty-six months on every offence after that or until you are twenty-one. In Utah under the Utah implied consent law if you are under 21 years old and are convicted of a DUI it is whichever is longer out of the two penalty options. It is a very bad idea to mix drugs of any sort even over the counter with alcohol, the alcohol can change the effects of the drugs on your body tremendously. Sometimes alcohol and drugs can cause an accidental overdose because the alcohol increases the effect of the drug and your body can’t filter the drugs or alcohol well enough to sustain itself. Illegal drugs can do the same thing when used with alcohol. Illegal drugs include but are not limited to heroin, meth, lsd, PCP, cocaine, inhalants, and marijuana. Marijuana can affect your driving by making it more likely for you to make driving mistakes, being arrested for more traffic violations, and being more likely to be bothered by headlight

Schmadeke states, “A speeding, unlicensed driver who crashed into another car on the Northwest Side, killing a mother and her teenage son and injuring three other children, was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison” (Schmadeke 1). Because 37 year old, Richard Strum decided to drive while intoxicated, he took two innocent lives and injured three others. He not only took a mother, but he also took a daughter, sister, and wife. He not only took a son, but he also took a brother, cousin, best friend, student, and ultimately someone who didn’t even have a chance at real life before it was taken away.
