A research was done in Singapore that showed that children were impulsive and unstable in controlling their emotions (Netzley 61). “They were also more likely to be socially incompetent” (Netzley 61). Children were to act more hostile due to their game addiction and were simply not as sociable. The children’s hostile acts are drawn from their addiction and the video games that they play. Their inquisitive minds are linked to the video games. A risk factor from the consistency of video games includes impulses (Gentile). Gamers have a sudden feeling to continue to play, not being able to restrain themselves (See Fig. 1). They act as if video games are the most important thing in the world and cannot get enough of it. “However, gaming can easily get out of hand, causing people to lose sleep, skip work, and otherwise shirk responsibilities when they cannot control their impulse to play games” (Netzley 59). Gamers tend to forget about their daily lives and shift their minds completely on video games. They act as if video games are the only things that are developed in this world, when they could be doing other things, such as going outside. I for one think video games isn’t the problem. With children being overweight, video games aren’t always filled with violet’s, there are games that teach you to work as a team with someone you’ve never meet. Even learning sportsmanship which I believe should be learned at a young age. Because facing the realities that you can’t always win there are going to be some people that are better and that you should encourage yourself to become better not just at video games life in general.…

The purpose of this study emphasizes on both, the positive and the negative impacts of playing video games on the teenagers. Over the last 30 years video games have made an impact on the way teenagers spend their leisure time. This research hypothesizes that social interaction, psychological, in particular aggressive behavior, health and academic performance is greatly affected by the extensive use of video gaming. The research proposal is further supported by the literature review of various articles including an article by Brandon T, which states that video games influence the beliefs and self esteem of children. In another article by Steven J Krish, it was proven that a positive relationship prevails between video gaming and self aggression, among the age groups of 11-17. In order to prove our hypothesis, both the primary and secondary research was conducted. The primary research was followed by questionnaires that were distributed among the targeted group and also an interview was conducted with a gaming technical. Our secondary research consisted of various articles. The information narrowed down brought very sensitive issues into the limelight. It was observed that almost 72 % of the teenagers suffered from acute aggression, bad grades and health issues, thus proving our hypothesis correct. However only strategic games were given a positive response as they sharpen the minds of the players but on the whole the negative effects overshadow the positive side of…

The popularity of playing video games has been increasing in the lives of today’s forthcoming generation. In this essay, the author observes the claims that support video game effects, but also addresses the arguments criticizing video games. The author recognizes these attacks, but offers a new point of view towards the practice of video games during child development years. The author begins with a brief record of video game development in the past several decades and how these video games have become more complex, leading children who play them to develop a more complex mind, with elevated abilities. These benefits include: increased dexterity and cognitive ability, improvement in perception, reasoning, and learning skills, increased visual and attention capacity, encourages system thinking and motivation, a good source of social interaction, promotes pro-social behavior, and teaches children how to successfully work in a team setting. The opposing views are then presented, supporting data is provided, and the author addresses why these arguments should not be given a great deal of concern. The author recognizes that some of these concerns may be an issue, but easily avoidable with appropriate parental monitoring. The author closes with indentifying that parents should not solely depend on video games for children development and that other modes of entertainment are equally imperative. The author expresses the importance of incorporating video game play in a child’s development, but stresses the significance of parental surveillance in order to promote these benefits.…

It all depends on the amount of video game exposure and play time (Matt, 2013). Excessive playing of video games especially by young children encourages competition that one must win to move so as to progress. In addition, continued playing of these games makes users aggressive as most of them are usually ‘unforgiving’; for example, if one gets shot and ‘dies’ while playing Call of Duty, the situation cannot be reversed. The aggression can pass on to their real world lives (Douglas, 2011). Moreover, there is the aspect of gambling where those involved place a cash stake as the prize. Similarly, this can lead to anger and aggression by the losers since they lose both their money and the game.…

During the course of this research, a number of significant facts were found. The original topic question for the research was “the psychological and physical effect of video games on children”. The amount of information researched on the psychological effect was a lot and thus the topic question for the research was then changed to “the psychological effect of video games on children”. The main reason for researching this topic was the fact that there are a lot of young children in the world who play immensely violent games. Many children and their parents ignore the game rating. Many parents do not understand the adverse effect that those video games would have on the young child’s growing brain. Research which is discussed below in detail has proven that violent video games have a great psychological effect on the children which causes them to become aggressive adolescence. This in turn affects their social and personal life in a major way. The researched information shows that violent video games are clearly harmful to children and both parents and children must obey the game rating if they want healthy and rather peaceful children. As a result of the stigmatization video games have received, many people view them as nothing more than entertainment at best and harmful to a child’s development at worst, neither side realizing the hidden assets of video games in relation to learning. For the terms of this argument, video games will be defined as any electronic or computerized game played via a game console, computer or hand-held device. It is unfortunate that the benefits of these games are not largely recognized, especially within the public school system, as the methods used in teaching today’s youth are outdated and are becoming less effective, creating the need for a different methodology. The purpose of this research is to show that although there have been claims of negative repercussions linked to video game play, there is little evidence to support such claims, and that the use of video games can actually help to create the optimum learning environment for children. Integration of game-based teaching into schools could provide a multitude of positive results including an increase in enthusiasm towards learning, greater memory retention and heightened cognitive skills. It is crucial that the school system starts to recognize the numerous benefits which can be obtained from video games; with proper use and approach, electronic gaming is the key to ensuring the children of today will be successful in the modernized world of tomorrow.…

I chose this topic to specify the social behavior in people who play video games from a rare to an extremely high basis. I’ve always wondered how games impact children and, to why they play them. Video games, as of today are becoming a childhood leisure activity, and adults respond with concern about the possibility of bad effects of the games on children I had to look into this because when I was growing up playing video games like Atari 7800 and Coleco Vision, gaming wasn’t as exciting, but several years later, between the same time Atari was about to fail, Nintendo was introduced and since then, video games within the past two decades have slowly, but surely, started to lift heads, and have now erupted into a twenty billion dollar industry in the U.S economy.…
