How Do Enzymes Speed Up Chemical Reaction
Enzymes are catalysts in cells that help speed up any chemical reaction that happens within the cell. Enzymes can be identified as either protein or RNA, most reactions that happen on the biological level are due to proteins. Certain enzyme activity requires coenzymes. Coenzymes assist the enzyme by transporting electrons (redox reactions), or adding groups to substrates. Before vitamins can interact with enzymes they must be converted into coenzymes themselves. (Cooper GM. 2000)
