How Did Tom Sawyer Grow Throughout The Book
This year we read Tom Sawyer by Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain). Throughout the book Tom has grown through maturity and just as a person. I have also grown a lot over the past year. I have grown as an athlete, a reader and writer, and also as an overall student.

As an athlete I have to make sure that I'm getting my school work done, and doing it well, but also make sure that I'm not slacking in my sports. I'm in three sports, one for each of the seasons during school. In the fall I'm in soccer, winter I'm in gymnastics, and in the spring I am in softball. At the beginning of the year when I'm in soccer, I am trying my best to make sure I can get a good start to the school year in all my classes. My parents have always told me school comes

Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first. I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. Get your facts first then you can distort them as much as you like. ~Mark Twain. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, the main character Tom Sawyer changes throughout the book. Like Tom Sawyer, I have also changed academically and socially throughout seventh grade.…

Aging is an inevitable process of growth. Growing up can be viewed in a physical or metaphorical sense as seen in the bildungsroman story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. The protagonist, Huckleberry Finn, and Jim, a runaway slave, travel down the Mississippi to escape their struggles and assert their independence. Twain uses the major theme of growing up to portray metaphorical character growth or lack thereof, molding the characters of Huckleberry Finn, the duke and king, and Jim, alluding to the growing pains of America.…

Sports are beneficial for instance, athletes who play sports tend to have better grades. Athletes who play any type of sport have less time to do homework, accordingly they are better at time management. They maintain an average GPA of a 2.0 or they can't play sports, unless they boost their grades back up. One researcher says, "High quality organized sports helps students earn better grades"("Youth Sports"). This quote states athletes involved in extra academics are able to earn better grades. Sports push athletes to do their best in school all over the nation. If somebody were to play football for Ridgeline High School, that student athlete…

I read online that, “Kids who do sports do better in school” (Amir Khan). From personal experience, when I entered high school and played sports the coaches told me in order to play for the team I had to keep my grades up. My son would keep his grades up not just because he has to but also to play a sport he loves. Keeping his grades up and being good in football may…

“School should be about learning, not sports”. Kids now a days love to play sports, but don’t like to learn. Learning, and get an education this is a very important thing in life you need it to have a good job so that you can have a family and support them. So I feel in school you must have good grades in order to play any type of sport, and if you do not then you should not be playing. A couple reasons I feel like this is for starters kids pay more attention to sports then they do in class. This is not how this should be. Kids should love to learn something new every day at school, but in some school that’s not the case. Kids need to learn.…

Sports keep teens well behaved at school and in class. Sports reduce the number of fights, and bad classroom behavior. In order to play any sport in high school, the students must make good grades. If they fail to make the grades, then they are either dismissed from the team, or they must take a study hall before each practice for at least 30 minutes, sometimes even for the whole day until his or her grade comes up to a passing grade. In most high schools, there are problems with attendance from the students. If a player does not come to school, then they may not go to practice or attend the game that…

When I was in second grade I learned that I loved competing with people and being good at things. I joined a gymnastics gym near my house in second grade when i was 9, and started competing when i was 10. My mom told me that I have to do well in school if I was going to be focused on a sport along with school, or she would take me out of gymnastics. Soon enough, I wasn’t doing so well in social studies and comm skills. I was scared my mom would make me quit, But I worked as hard as I could so get back up there. Focusing more on school than outside activities, I got that grade back up and I continued with my favorite sport. I love gymnastics, but I don’t let it get in the way of school because school always comes first.…

I was relieved, the only problem I had of not being in shape could be easily solved by running in the morning before school. The only thing I needed was my parent’s permission. And since I really had my mind on making and joining the track team this year, I really needed this “OK” from my parents to put my plan in effect. After dinner, each of my family members went up to their own individual room to finish their work for the whether it be homework or simply chores. As soon as the schoolwork on my desk was…

Well school is more complicate d for student athletes, because we have to balance more in the sense that we have class, practice, games, and some games require you to travel. In some situations we have to rush to get our work turned in because some teachers feel that being a student athlete does not mean anything and you are viewed as a regular student. Student athletes do not want special treatment so that sports can be used as an excuse, but we would like to have an understanding with our teachers during times that we have to travel and we will be missing class and possibly assignments. When you have to rush to get work in before road trips, most of the time the work turned in is of poor quality, which means you will get a bad grade. That helps nothing because in order to play sports you have to maintain a certain grade point average but if we are turning in poor quality work then our grades could possibly be unacceptable. Then if you are on scholarship and your grades are unacceptable you will then lose your scholarship which can bring about more…

One reason high school sports aren’t beneficial is because they create a lot of pressure. According to the video “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” by KCRA, sports are sometimes the only way students can get into a good college and be able afford it. This puts a lot of pressure on the athletes to perform at their best 100% of the time. Experts say that your child's entire team will suffer if the parents are pressuring their kids (KCRA.com, “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” ). This fact is important because it proves, when parents put pressure on their children it does not benefit them, in fact it is actually setting them up for life in an unhealthy way. This shows that the pressure from sports is not good and not worth it.…

You want to be able to leave school with a diploma cause less than one percent of collegiate athletes go on to play a pro sport. Even if a student athlete goes on to the pros, their career will last less than 20 years. Life certainly doesn’t end there. Another reason a student-athlete has to make sure their grades are good in class is to be able to play and practice. I as an athlete have to make sure I am in compliance with NCAA grade policy. NCAA has step the bench mark GPA at 2.00. If a student-athlete falls below that mark they often have to sit for a whole term, commonly referred to as academic probation. This can put a death sentence on an athlete’s season. It can also drastically affect your relationship with the team and ultimately the coach. Academic probation has ended great college athletes’ careers for the simple fact that they were not as committed to school as they were in their respective sport. The hardest part of class, from my experiences is not getting up and going to it. Skipping can really become a habit, especially when you’re a freshman. I know if I make an effort to get to class everyday there is no way I can’t at least past my classes Lastly you came to college so that you can do what you really want to do later in life. As my coach told me in high school “You will never go down this path…

Over 55 percent of all high school students will take part in an extracurricular sport this year. Most, if not all of these students get home late each day after an exhausting practice, only to have more hard work ahead of them – their homework. Some days, it will be past midnight by the time they finish. When they get to school the next day, they’re fatigued from their lack of sleep. They hardly have any energy to walk out the front door, let alone run around in gym class. Since grades in physical education are largely based upon participation, the student may take a lower grade due to their lassitude, despite the fact that they work extremely hard at their chosen sport. Yet, all they get for their dedication is a pat on the back. This should not be the case. All student athletes that play a sport for their school should earn credits toward graduation for the sports they play.…

Most athletes take school almost as serious as sports. Since student athletes are successful in school, they have earned a better opportunity to get into the school that they have chosen. To get on the A honor roll, these students study in between practices. Studying all night, the students almost fell asleep sometimes. “Kody you need to wake up,” My dad hollered! The athletes that care about school and sports have multiple priorities.…
