How Did The South Have The Right To Do Without A Civil War
Imagine the United States without a Civil War. We would be a much greater and stronger nation. I believe that the South didn’t have the right to fight for their way of life. Due to their attitude on slavery, they created a war that was dreadful. In the war, was the bloodiest day in US history, and the entire war caused 650,000 deaths. I believe this due to the cost of the Civil War, the unjustness of slavery, and the way that the South never compromised. The first reason of why I think that the South didn’t have the right to protect their way of life is because the Civil War was horrific. I believe this because there were 650,000 people who lost their lives in the Civil War. In addition, out of the people who died were innocent men and women. Many of them never thought of dying in a war. Last but not least, the Battle of Antietam is still the bloodiest day in United States history. The South was the entire reason for the Civil War. Another reason I don’t respect the South's right to the way of life because they were fighting for something that is completely wrong-slavery. The South went over to African villages and took people out of their homes, just because of their race. It was completely unfair. The South also treated their slaves awfully. They whipped them, and hurt them until they completed their nearly impossible demands. Worst of all, …show more content…
The North kept on trying to stop the expansion of slavery, but the South kept on wanting more. They kept on trying to push westward. The saddest part of this is that they went against their own countrymen. They couldn’t even compromise with the people who they were fighting side by side with to break from Britain. They completely denied the Northerners who told them that slavery was completely wrong and isn’t fair. The South should have compromised when it was given the chance to end the Civil

The propaganda pitch the Union gave was they were fighting to free the slaves. This was not true! It was said Southerners were fighting to preserve slavery. This is also a false statement. Roughly less than 6% of all Southerners owned slaves. In fact, there were a substantial amount of generals in the Union army that owned slaves themselves. In addition the constitution protected slavery. If the true issue was to maintain slavery the South would not have seceded. The most obvious myth is that the "good" North marched into the "cruel and evil" South for the sole purpose of freeing the slaves. There are many quotes from Northern leaders that show clearly that the main purpose of the North was not the eradication of slavery, but subjugation of the southern people. Slavery was used to rally the Northern population behind Abraham Lincoln's war. It was an emotional issue, sure some Yankees joined and fought to "set men free", but most were there to preserve the union. Preserving the Union meant stepping on the Southern people and keeping them as a tax base to feed Northern industrialists. An interesting conflict of Northern morals is discovered. The North…

The American Civil War was truly a unique war in American history as well as world history. It stands as one of the worst, if not the worst, stain on the history of the United States of America, and should be studied to find how things managed to go so wrong so that the horrors witnessed will never be seen again. Perhaps the worst mistake was that the American people woefully underestimated how truly devastating the American Civil War would become and unfortunately by the time Americans came to this realization it was too late.…

If the South seceded, the North and South would both be benefited. The North would have changed into a country with social and economic policies similar the ones in Canada or European countries. The South would have half an economy based on slave labor or an economy based on free labor. If Lincoln had let the 11 Southern states away, Southern blacks eventually would have won their freedom. They may have had to switch arms, but only a few could argue.…

Even though Southern resistance was a problem it wasn’t the main reason, the North should’ve known the South was going to retaliate. The North gave the South something they didn’t want and turned their back letting them have something they didn’t want nor know how to use without helping them along. The Northern government was falling apart and without the winner of the Civil War being strong how could the rest of the…

The American Civil War is unique in that it is one of the only wars in which the -losers- wrote the history. Unfortunately, this was allowed because America (I call it America, not the North or the Union, because these 'rebel' idiots today enjoy calling themselves "Patriots" while they sought and seek to destroy the country) wanted to heal the wounds caused by the war, which was caused by the South.…

The North and the South have been divided for the beginning. The North being the Free states an the South being the Confederate. The South was highly agricultural. It wanted to keep slavery as a way of life on their plantations. The North, which was far more industrial, saw this as unnecessary and morally wrong. One way the government tried to limit the tension was by keeping the number of slave and free states equal. So, in 1820, when Missouri met the requirements for statehood and applied for admission to the Union as a slave state, there was a problem. The balance of free and slave states would be destroyed.…

Even with all the advantages the union had in their position at the time of the war, although the union still almost lost to the rebellious southern states. Before the death of Stonewall Jackson the southern states had the upper hand in the war even without the man power and weaponry or the union. The southern states a new found province did not have the money or the industry to support a war. I believe the death of Stonewall Jackson in chancellor’s Ville changed the outcome of the war. Lee without his right hand man makes careless mistake which leads to his surrender to grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. The Civil War was inevitable the north and south where doomed to battle over slavery issue sooner or later. Not because the north was worried about the rights or miss treatment of the slaves in the south but because of the power the south had in congress. This is explainable, because if slavery was the big picture then why didn’t Lincoln emancipate the slave in the northern states? If Lincoln would have freed the slaves in the northern states the union would have lost those states as well and indefinitely lost the war. “Antietam, though hardly the victory he had hoped for, gave Lincoln the excuse he needed to take a step that changed the character of…

This was a border dispute that started with the South first opening gunfire located at South Carolina. Which led them to victory of this battle. Another battle was the “Battle of Antietam” September 17, 1862. The most bloodiest battle of the Civil War in Sharpsburg, Maryland. The “Vicksburg Campaign” was also a battle during this era that broke out over the Mississippi River that was used to divide the North and South in December of 1862.…

Although civil war led to loss of many lives about 620,000, it was worth its cause. Civil war led to the end of slavery and preserved the union. It also brought many changes to America. It made America take a step in a new direction. It I feel as though slavery has been abolished the hurt is still there. Slavery was a terrible phase for America. I think the civil war should always be remembered and be kept in mind as we move on as a nation. “In the end, the Civil War determined what type of a country we would be—united; and what type of a people we would be—free.” (NPS 26)…

What do the words “civil war” make you think of? For many people these words represent a fight of good against evil, and in the case of the American civil war, the war over slavery. But these assumptions about the American Civil War aren’t always true. The Civil War was fought from 1861-1865, after 7 states seceded from the United States in January 1861. These 7 states grew to 11 and were known as the Confederacy or the South. They were fighting the North, known as the Union. The Civil War is commonly thought of as the fight to end slavery although this is not exactly true. The North and South had very different economies and culture, and the real causes of the Civil War are more complex than just one issue. The factors that most contributed…

I think the Civil War could not have been avoided because it seemed like the only way to stop the South from seceding from the Union. The South developed their wealth from the slaves that picked cotton and tobacco. They sold these crops to other countries who needed them and developed wealth from these other countries. If the North stopped this, the South would not be able to make as much money. The Dred Scott Decision was a deciding factor about the war.…

On the surface, the Civil War appears to be a heroic battle that the north fought against slavery and immorality. But it’s not so simple. The Civil War was a complicated war fought for many reasons. It was fought mainly because of the difference between the northern and southern economic vision for America, but also because poor Americans everywhere generally felt ideologically attacked, and because the south felt frustrated, as they were politically underrepresented.…
