How Did The Greek Culture Influence South Italy

South Italy, the coastal areas and Sicily was gradually colonized by Greeks, to such extend that became known in the history records as “Magna Grecia” – “Greater Greece”. The colonization started in the eight centuries and expand in size gradually thereafter. Some of the most famous cities were: Croton, Sybaris, Rhegium, Bari, Tarentum (Tara), one of the most important city were Syracuse in Sicily, one of the largest and most influential of all.
Rome inherited from the Greeks many useful ideas, The Greek culture had tremendous impact and influence on the new developing Roman society, from social organization, military, science, art, religious and more. Many important Greek thinkers had their roots in Italy, like: Archimedes, Pythagoras. I
