One diplomatic invention created during the industrial revolution that had a major impact on communication and economy in America was the typewriter. The typewriter helped people write books, telegrams, letters, and documents, easily and quickly. The rectangle shaped platform at the top of the typewriter is called a paper table or a carriage. The carriage release lever is a lever located on the left of the typewriter that shifts the paper table to the right to start a new line. Additionally, right below the paper table is a large roller made of rubber called a platen. The paper wraps around the platen, which makes the paper secure, so it can be easier for the type bars to print on it. Furthermore, type bars, which are one of the most important parts of the typewriter, are movable metals that print marks on the paper when a key top is pushed on. The type bars push against a ribbon held together by spools, which then leaves a print on the paper. A ribbon spool is strip of fabric, commonly polymer that is covered in a pigment.
