How Did Michael Jackson Influence The Music World
Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. He was a dancer, record producer, songwriter and singer. Michael spent his entire childhood in a band called The Jackson 5 with his brothers. In the Eighties he broke free and become a solo artist. He made his own style of music with a bit of disco, rap, jazz, and rock rolled into his songs. He pushed boundaries with his crotch grabs and controversial lyrics. He had his own iconic style with one white sequined glove, fedora, pegged pants, bedazzled uniforms, glittering socks, and zippered leather jacket. In the early Eighties Jackson became a dominant figure in the music world. In 1980 he performed “Rock with You” at the “Because We Care” UNICEF, Charity Gala in Uniondale, New York. July 22, 1981, Michael along with his brothers performed a special benefit concert for the Atlanta Children’s Foundation for murdered children raising over 100,000 dollars for the charity. When MTV started the popularity of his videos brought fame to the new music channel. He was the first black artist to receive heavy rotation on the racial music channel with his video “Billie Jean”. His songs revolved around love, African-American pride and uplifting all people. He donated over 300 Million dollars to various charities. He started some of his own charities. Michael is one of only 19 artist to be inducted into the hall of fame twice. Jackson is the most awarded artist in history including 13 Grammy’s, The Grammy Legend, The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 26 American Music Awards, and Artist of the century. He was inducted into the Song Writers Hall of Fame, and he is the first and only dancer to be inducted to the Dance Hall of Fame for both rock and pop music. Ditzian, Eric.
