How Did Isaac Newton Contribute To The Universal Law Of Gravity
Sir Isaac Newton was a famous scientist who invented the Universal Law of Gravitation in 1687. His law of gravity describes the force amongst every object that contains mass. Newton devised his idea of the law of gravity when he observed an apple fall from a tree. This then lead him speculating about whether the same force that was upheld by the apple was also maintained by the moon. Sir Isaac Newton then reached to the discovery that both the apple and the moon were motivated by the force of gravity. His law of gravity states that ‘every object in the universe that has mass, pulls other objects with the force of gravity.’ A gravitational force increases when an object’s mass is larger and decreases when the distance between two objects is …show more content…
He envisioned a cannonball on top of a high mountain, in which its peak was beyond earth’s atmosphere. On top of the mountain was a cannonball that discharged horizontally. When the cannonball was discharged horizontally, it fell to earth due to the gravitational force that pulled the object towards the centre of the Earth, as well as the low speed. However, when the cannonball’s speed was increased at the exact rate, it orbited around the earth, revolving in the gravitational field. Prior to Newton’s discovery, individuals couldn’t clarify why the planets orbited the Sun, what held the planets up, why things fell down and what pulled humans as well as objects towards the Earth. With the extensive knowledge of gravity, science societies are directed through the studies of planetary orbits. Newton’s equation is efficient as it allows scientists to calculate the location of moons, planets and comets. The universal law of gravity has assisted NASA engineers launch humans to the moon. The formula has allowed engineers to determine the amount of energy required for a rocket to defeat the gravitational field across Earth. With the knowledge of gravity, scientists can apply the formula when launching satellites into space.
