According to U.S. News.com, Richardson spent over 2 million dollars of his own funds during the 2002 campaign. During the midterm elections, he funded his campaign through donations and his own wallet. By not taking money from special interest lobbyists, he hopes to gain the trust of votes that his decisions in office will not be influenced by high donating corporations. He has made a point of calling out Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb for accepting gifts from lobbyists. Throughout the story, "The Jacket", Young Gary's jacket represents many emotions. The main two I got from the reading was poverty and the young boys insecurity once he began to wear the jacket. When young Gary first walked into his bedroom and saw the new jacket on his bedpost he immediately disliked it. One of the representations of the jacket is poverty. He says, "I wanted to cry because it was so ugly and so big that I knew I'd have to wear it a long time." Towards the end of the story he says, "I wore that thing for three years." Another representation would be his insecurity. You know the young boy is insecure of his new jacket because at one point he says, " I sat on the bed, stood against the bed, and combed my hair to see what I look…

Since Texans feared a powerful government, they did not want a powerful executive figure who could abuse his power. Instead, they created the “plural executive” system that consists of a Governor, a Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Comptroller of Public Accounts, Land Commissioner, and Attorney General. Being only one of the members of the executive board, the Governor does not have that many powers. He has the power to appoint the members of boards and commissions, so he can always choose people with similar interests. However, the governor’s appointees have to be confirmed by two-thirds of the Senate. Furthermore, the governor can only fire people who were appointed by him. Thus, even though the Governor is given the power of appointment,…

When comparing the idea of a weak and strong governor, what is considered to make a Texas governor weak in comparison to other state governors is the plural executive. The governor does not get to choose the people who make up the plural executive, and they must share power. This in turn lessens the governor’s authority within the…

Politicians are elected because of the issues they stand for; however, interest groups hold or weaken their agenda once they have been elected. Interest groups make good use of every available resource when sponsoring or overpowering their concern. These interest groups are composed of a body of voters with a stake in major or minor supported issues, and they make known the matter they are fighting for or against. By never giving up on their arguments and concerns, interest groups will make public demonstrations or displays. This persistence continues until they accomplish whatever the cause is that they are participating in.…

Bruce W Tuckman is a respected educational psychologist who first described the four stages of group development in 1965. While looking at the behavior of small groups in a variety of environments, he recognized the distinct phases they go through. He also suggested that they need to experience all four stages before they achieve maximum effectiveness. He refined and developed the model in 1977 with the addition of a fifth stage. Since then, others have attempted to adapt and extend the model although sometimes with more of an eye on rhyme than reason (Chimera Consulting 2001).…

Our informants argued thatthe voice of the conservative population from largely rural areas cannot reach the political decisions, and the bills that are pushed through by Democrats largely affects rural communities. As an insider who observed state politics, interns had a deeper understanding of Oregon politics than the average voter. To explore these two conceptions, this data section presents two themes. One is liberal myth of Oregon, and the other one is urban-rural division.…
