How Did Abigain Proctor Be Held Responsible For The Crucible

The play The Crucible written by Arthur Miller takes place in Massachusetts during the Salem Witch Trails where multiple citizens were hanged and accused of witchcraft. The Crucible discusses an affair between a married man named John Proctor and a young girl, Abigail Williams. Even when John denies his relations with Abigail, she continues to believe he still has feelings for her. Ultimately, Abigail wants John to herself and goes to extreme measures to try to eliminate John’s wife, Elizabeth, as a threat. Abigail should have been held accountable for the trails because she committed adultery with John Proctor, was found in the forest dancing and chanting, and accused Elizabeth of witchcraft. Prior to Abigail and John’s affair, Abigail had worked as the Proctor’s house servant. When Elizabeth began to question and become suspicious of their relationship, she fired Abigail and made her leave. After accusations of witchcraft started to spread throughout Salem, Elizabeth lost all faith that John did not have an affair when he admitted he had been alone with Abigail for a moment.
