To what extent were Weimar's failings significant in German history from 1919 to 1933?

In 1918 the allies had clearly won the war and Germany emerged from it in a state of chaos. Although little fight had taken place in German itself, the war had still destroyed much of the old Germany. The proud German army was defeated. The allies offered Germany peace, but under strict conditions. On e condition was that Germany should become more democratic and that the Kaiser should abdicate.
