Houston Research Paper
Houston is a large city with various modes of transportation for both passengers and cargo. These modes of transportation provide means for transportation and cargo to travel locally, regionally, and internationally in various manners. Houston has two major airports, George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby that, collectively, provide non-stop and direct service for air travelers and air cargo to several domestic and international locations. In addition, Houston is home to the Port of Houston which, according to the portofhouston.com website is consistently ranked first in United States import tonnage and United States export tonnage. Therefore, the Port of Houston provides significant shipping commerce with the international community. Houston also provides ready shipping access to the largest petrochemical complex in the United States and provides a strategic gateway for commercial goods originating from or destined for the U.S. West and Midwest regions. A vast multitude of truck, train, and air connections allow for the transportation of goods between Houston and several inland origins/destinations. According to …show more content…
While passengers and cargo utilize these routes frequently, air travel for passengers between Houston and Dallas is quite common. Recently, a high-speed rail project was initiated to connect the cities of Houston and Dallas with a 100+ mph train. While this high-speed rail system is intended to relieve automobile traffic, it is quite possible that it will also reduce demand for air travel between Houston and Dallas. Conversely, the additional transportation option offered by the high-speed rail will most likely increase overall commerce in Houston and Dallas, yielding increased demand for air traffic to those
