Hop Frog Or The Eight Chained Ourang-Outangs Analysis
It is apparent that Hop-Frog or The Eight Chained Ourang-Outangs is a text that exemplifies the goal of Southern Gothic Literature to create confusion between good and evil. Edgar Allan Poe’s short story depicts Hop-Frog’s intentions to exact revenge upon the king. Hop-Frog treatment at the hand of the king is anything but enjoyable. The king begins by forcibly carrying Hop-Frog and his friend Tripetta from their villages. Within the palace, they are both subject to constant abuse from the king and his ministers while working as jesters. Failure to comply with the king’s demands results in Tripetta being physically harmed and Hop-Frog being verbally abused. Infuriated with anger, Hop-Frog devises a plan to exact revenge by suspending the king
