Honors College Mission Statement
The mission of the Honors College is something that represents the environment I enjoy and thrive in. Firstly, the community surrounding education and conversation is something unique and truly mesmerizing. I know that I am in a good place when my peers thoroughly enjoy discussing a multitude of topics, regardless of who they are, what they’re studying, and where they’ve come from. The Honors College is one of these places that gives everyone a voice and the ability to generate open discussions on various topics. Also, the undergraduate research that the Honors College provides will enable me to continue connecting with professors and delve into my passions within my major. Mr. Bill Robinson, an Associate Professor of Management in the Krannert School, is an example of a professor that I see myself bonding with over our interest in new product development. The opportunities to learn alongside professors and seek extra help when needed, is beneficial to learning wholeheartedly. Thirdly, the value student leadership is a wonderful aspect of the Honors College. As Claire Lee, a current Honors College student said in the informational video about leadership development within the program, “student leadership combines the academics at Purdue with the real world experience.” The ability to apply knowledge …show more content…
Whether it be learning about the culture and diversity of my peers -- strictly adhering to the inclusion efforts of the Honors College, engaging in discussions surrounding issues and current events around the world, or learning how to create and market products that will succeed with the help of my professors, I know I will be deeply ingrained and involved with the Honors College community and strive to embody it’s important interdisciplinary values. I hope to become a part of this amazing community of students and contribute in these activities that make it so

UC Irvine (UCI) was first founded in 1965. UC Irvine was one of three new Universities of California campuses established in the 1960s. UC Irvine was not named after the city it was built in, instead, the name is a reference to James Irvine, a landowner who administered the 94,000-acre Irvine Ranch. At the time, the current city of Irvine did not exist until it was incorporated in 1971. In 1964, the University purchased an additional 510 acres for housing and commercial developments. Most of the land that UCI didn’t purchase, which is now occupied by the cities of Irvine, Tustin, Newport Beach, and Newport Coast, is now held by the ‘Irvine Company’. UC Irvine's first Chancellor, Daniel G. Aldrich, developed the campus's first academic…

My desire to be an Alpha man strongly revolves around the fraternity’s aims, mission statement, and vision. These principles and values of Alpha are something that resonates deeply with how I try to develop myself as a man within an academic setting as well the local community. The fraternity itself set the standard for which other Black Greek fraternities and sororities would follow as being the first inter-collegiate fraternal organization established for African-Americans with the sole purpose of mutual uplift and support. There has never been a time when Alpha Phi Alpha fell short of producing men whose leadership and service to the community made an impact on the lives of African-Americans especially the youth. This is why Alpha Phi Alpha stood out to me in a…

The Honors Program grabbed my attention because it’s for academically outstanding students and I am that student. Throughout my years of high school, I have taken Advanced Placement and Honors classes and have done very well in them. Being average is not okay for me, I want to do my best and reach my fullest potential in everything I do. I like being challenged mentally and that is exactly what the Honors Program will do for me. In the Honors Program I will be able to engage in social and cultural seminars that I know I will thoroughly enjoy. I have been a part of Diversity Club where different cultures come together to share ideas, exchange food, and get to know more about each others’ culture, so I have an idea of what seminars are like. I am a very outgoing person and I love to meet and interact with new people so through these seminars and projects I will be able to do that. I would also like to get a broader perspective on the world and throughout the many different projects, I will gain that. I read about the Honors Program and what will be done throughout the four years and I thought to myself that this is where I belong, I will fit right in. I want to accomplish many things that this program will allow me to and greatness is what I would like to aim for. The Honors Program at John Carroll University brings together one of the most gifted, diverse, and active groups of people not only on campus, but in the country and I would like to be a part of that, something…

The course that I would propose for the AU Honors Program would be ‘Unlocking the Key to Happiness’. Being happy is something that has always fascinating me, and I think it is essential for living a good life; therefore, a course like this would not only be enlightening and fascinating, but useful. The questions that the course would ask would be how do we become truly happy, what are some obstacles in the way of happiness, how do we overcome those obstacles, and is happiness our purpose in life, or is it something else? Since this is a broad topic, the different disciplines that I would pull from the faculty would be neuroscience (natural and applied sciences), economics and psychology (social sciences), and philosophy (humanities/arts). Neuroscience…

The integrative nature of Honors classes will allow me to expand my horizons intellectually. Unlike high school, the Honors classes at Penn State Berks create a connection between different fields. Notably, while English 30T is an English discipline, my professors are teaching me how to make connections to between English and Engineering. While the connections may appear irrelevant, they reinforce the development of critical thinking, a skill needed for my field. In addition, the Honors-level work acts as a foundation for many different topics I will learn through my years of Penn State. Particularly, my Honors chemistry class covers in-depth material needed for Biomedical engineering. With the strong basis established early on, the class will…
