Honey Bee Research Paper
Animal Research: Honey Bee The honey bee, also known as the western honey bee, is an important insect to our ecosystem and everyday lives. Without the honey bee, we and other animals would not be here for so long. Honey bee’s main purpose is to pollinate flowers and plants to retrieve nectar to make honey. In return, fruits and yummy flowers bloom for all to consume due to being fertilized by the bees. Bees only have a lifespan of about 4-6 weeks depending on the time of season, so it’s very important for them to harness as much nectar as they can as a food storage for the winter. This animal is precious to the earth’s ecosystem and we need to make sure that it doesn’t disappear forever. The honey bee originated in Southeast Asia and Europe

Albert Einstein is reputed to have said: “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would only have four years of life left” (Benjamin and McCallum, 7). He was speaking in regard to the symbiotic relationship of all life on the planet, which consists of a huge intertwined ecosystem. Each element plays a certain role that is dependent on many other components that work closely together (Higgins, 2007). Society, unfortunately, knows a very small amount about the importance of the honeybee. Ninety percent of commercial crops worldwide owe their existence to the honeybee pollination. (Benjamin and McCallum, 4). Their…

Each year since 2006, bees have gradually been disappearing from their hives or dying off. Bees have died off before in the past. This is called colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or infections, but now this is caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Bees play a key part in pollination. When the crops are pollinated by the bees, they are capable of producing the fruits or vegetables the human population eats. Farmers primarily depend upon the bees to pollinate their crops. The honeybees were the most adaptable bees out there because they would pollinate almost any of the plants. Other bees were only attracted to specific plants or flowers.…

While one reads the Sue Monk Kidd novel, The Secret Life of Bees, an enigma acquainted with the book is why the Black Madonna of Breznichar in Bohemia is used as opposed to a white Virgin Mary. With the story taking place in the racist south of 1964 it would be reasonable to assume that a black Mary wouldn’t be common, or readily accepted; however she still occupies a large area of the women’s lives. For the Boatwright’s, the Daughters of Mary, and quickly for Lily and Rosaleen, the black Virgin Mary is placed in the book as a source of strength, and maternal comfort.…

    The Decline of Honey Bees

Honeybees were brought to North America from Europe in the 1600s. They produce honey and pollinate crops. In recent years honeybee populations across the continent have declined by as much as 70 percent. Their loss could effect fruits and vegetables such as apples, broccoli, strawberries, nuts, asparagus, blueberries and cucumbers. Honeybees pollinate $14 billion worth of seeds and crops in the US every year. Therefore, if honeybees disappear, they could take most of our insect pollinated plants with them, potentially reducing the human being to little more than a bread and water diet. Biologists are studying the reasons behind the enormous bee die off happening across the country; they call it Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). It occurs when a hive's inhabitants suddenly disappear, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature workers. The term was first applied to a drastic rise in the number of diasappearances of Western honey bee colonies in North America in late 2006. The cause appears to be related to chemicals, electromagnetic radiation and Varroa mites.…

When the reader deciphers the question of appearances versus realities, they can see the differences between the reality of the characters, and the way that the characters appearances are portrayed by the townspeople in Kidd's book.…

The book I selected is called Horsefly and Honeybee, which is a fiction book written by Randy Cecil. This book is about a horsefly and a honey bee who fought over a flower and each lost a wing. Because they could no longer fly they were captured by a bullfrog and soon to be eaten. But, they decided to work together and use the remaining wings they had to fly away. By doing so, they escaped, became friends, and shared the flower. This book is at the instructional level for the majority of the class and is for ages four to eight and grades pre-k to third. However for a handful of students, who i’ve noticed are at a higher reading level than the rest of the class, this book would be somewhat simpler. But, the moral gained from the story is something…

As many know, bees are major factors to the growth of many kinds of plants - about eighty percent of plants worldwide. However, not as many people are aware that those industrious insects’ population is falling at an alarming rate, without much being done about it; many potential solutions (incomplete or not) are not being tested or utilized at all when they undeniably should be. If we - the human race in its entirety - don’t start doing anything we can to stop (or at least slow) the bees’ decline at the rate it’s currently going, we’re all going to have to face our own mortality shortly after the bees face theirs.…
