Sometimes lying is understandable for someone’s protection but sometimes the truth is essential to the person. There are multiple things people say in a day that are seen as lies such as “That outfit looks really good on you!,” “It wasn’t me!” and “I’ll be with you in a few minutes.” Honestly is not always the best policy because in the end it does not make everything better. But it is the only way for us to better ourselves or to move past an event in our lives. I have seen the affects growing up of how my father lied to my mother and the damage that is can cause. Honesty allows us to build trust which is such an important bond that we build with our family, friends and even total strangers. Often, people say that honesty is the best policy and is defined as the act of telling the truth to the best of one’s knowledge. Coupled with the definition of honesty is the belief that telling the truth all the time is good because of certain reasons. Primary motive is that many consider saying the truth as an aid in improving one’s self. For instance, one project organizer asks one of the staff if the theme chosen for the occasion is well suited. Then, one of the personnel has the guts to tell the truth that a better theme is fitted for the event. The project organizer will then have a better idea, thereupon aiding to the betterment of the organized project. Likewise, saying the truth helps us to earn others’ trusts. The ability to have honesty is to do the right thing even if it may be hard. Honesty starts with a vision of what is right, not based on what somebody says is right but on what you feel in your heart is right. A year ago, one of my best friends wanted to participate in a talent show at school. She always had a thing for singing and she sang all the time. Where ever she went she had a song in her head. I define integrity as an individual responsibility in doing the right thing. An example of integrity is an individual that is always honest. I know that in the real world, it is indeed difficult to encounter individual who has integrity. Integrity is not just doing the right thing when he or she is being watched. It is worth noted that integrity is to always be doing what is right even when no one is watching. Sadly, I have personally encountered individual who refused to do the right by others, which obviously says a lot about that person as individual. To me integrity is not just when a student cheats on a paper; quite frankly, the mistreatment of another individual in the work place, and playing politics…
