For my report, I picked Honduras because of the many interesting things you can find, visit, or just view there. Not only is Honduras a tourist destination, it was also the first country to be called a “Banana Republic”. The beaches of Honduras are known for their crystal clear water, as well as their powder white sand. I can’t wait to tell you even more fascinating facts about Honduras throughout this paper.
Honduras is located in Central America. It borders the Caribbean Sea. Honduras has four major landscape regions, as well as a large interior plateau of hills and mountains that cover most of the land. Honduras is very water-rich, as stated by the worldatlas. At the time, the population was nearly 7,212,000, which made Honduras number 96 in population compared with all 193 nations of the world. Honduras currently has a population of 8.075 million (2015). As a result of such high population, there are a variety of ethnicity groups, as well as religions. The large majority of the people living in Honduras are mestizo, which is a mixture of European and Amerindian. Nearly 90 percent of Hondurans are mestizo, about 7 percent are purely Amerindian, 2 percent are Africans who live mostly along the north coast, and lastly, 1 percent of the population is European. Among these races, some of the most popular religions are Roman Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Jehovah’s Witness, and Mennonite. The Roman Catholic Church has a membership that consists of slightly more than 80 percent of the country’s total population. However, only 63 percent of the population calls themselves a Roman Catholic. This was proven on a 2002 poll of citizens 18 or older. The other 23 percent call themselves evangelical Christians, and the last 14 percent remaining designate themselves to other religious groups. Despite the many different religions, the official language of Honduras is Spanish. Although English is used vastly, especially in the northern Honduran areas, the Amerindian that are mainly focused on include Miskito, Zambo, Paya, and Xicaque. There are other languages, they are just not as commonly spoken throughout Honduras. By looking at the common customs preformed, it is easy to see how the Spanish have influenced the culture of Honduras. The Spanish culture was spread through Honduras when they ruled for over three centuries. Some things that the Spanish taught the Hodurans may include colonial architecture. This technique is shown everywhere, especially in their churches, as well as in cathedrals and public buildings. Hondurans are always open and
