Homosexuality Speech
“If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death for they are guilty of a capital offense”. This verse is found in the bible under the new living translation of Leviticus 20:13 and it is verses like these found in the bible that people often use to justify their intolerance of homosexuality. I cannot stand when people try to justify their disapproval of homosexuality with references to the Bible instead of using their own set of morals to decide what is right and what is wrong.

When I was 15 I sat in a pew with my family at church one Sunday morning and had to listen to our preacher give a sermon on gay people and how they are evil and doomed to hell if they do not find Jesus and change their ways. To this day that sermon really bothers me. I can’t believe a preacher of all people was up in front of that room essentially giving a hate speech on a certain group of people. I thought Christians were supposed to be non-judgmental and loving and caring of ALL people. But sadly sometimes that is not the case. You hear in the news all the time about how gays often become victims of violence. Simply because the bible says that they are evil sinners. You also hear about groups such as the Westboro Babtist church holding anti-gay protests and holding up signs such as “God Hates Fags”. Gay marriage is only legal in a very small number of states and even in those states, same sex couples often have small underground ceremonies for fear of angry bible believing protesters. Homosexuals should NOT feel as though God does not love them.

My best friend is a Lesbian and I have seen firsthand the pain she underwent when she came out to her friends and family. I saw her family drag her to church to try to change her ways. They told her she was sick and could be cured if she went to therapy and found Jesus. It was so hard for I still remember her tear stained face.

“ The Love and acceptance of god must be brought to all people. The prejudice and hatred of the christian right must be rejected and fought. Those who act out of ignorance must be educated.” (Simpson, Bruce J.) All churches need to accept and love their homosexual members and stop rejecting them in the house of the lord. It’s god’s home, he wouldn’t want any tension between the sexes in the house.…

I am reading “Coming out of Shame: Transforming Gay and Lesbian Lives” by Gershen Kaufman. This is one of the first books I picked up when I was in the mist of dealing with my sexuality. The first shame, inferiority, and guilt I felt concerning homosexuality were as a young child growing up in a Black Baptist church. “Organized Christian Religion, in particular, has been a major source of shame and contempt for homosexuality” (Gershen, p. 9). The pastor would preach many sermons on the sinfulness of being gay. “You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is an abomination”. (Leviticus 18:22 The New Bible). The preaching of this belief was devastating to my self esteem which was deeply rooted in my spirituality and most importantly…

    Gay Speech In South Park

The concept of distinction in the way homosexual males speak is a fairly new notion in the study of sociolinguistics (Podesva, 2002) and the fact that gay speech is often parodied in the media makes it an interesting topic to discuss. I will be investigating examples of gay speech in the popular television show South Park and compare the way they portray gay speech to the way gay CNN journalist Anderson Cooper speaks. Anderson Cooper has his own show called Anderson Cooper 360 which I will use to listen to his speech patterns. I want to prove a claim coined by Podesva (2002) that not all homosexual males speak with the stereotypical, gay speech. It really all depends on particular individuals which are often represented in the media such as…

Condemnation of gays can be religious. Most the time this happens when people of a church condemn gays in view of the fact that they do not agree with them, instead of showing them grace. People can disagree with homosexuality but not condemn the person for it. However, there is a debate that the Bible disagreeing with gays may be a quirk of history instead of a moral precept. The author makes a statement that “ Those who invoke religious sentiments for their attitudes toward gays, then, need to examine whether their religious beliefs are here not really a disguise for some animus for which they have no reasons”. In my opinion, people that do not agree with homosexuals on account of a religious stand point cannot condemn them and patronize them. Given that they are wanting a gay to live by the same morals they do they need to treat them with the same respect they would a non homosexual because if a person notices you being repulsive and saying hurtful words to someone just because you disagree with their way of life, it is not proceeding the person to want to live by the same morals and standards you do. Maybe homosexuals have not seen enough grace by religious people to want to be…

Many churches preached against gay rights, saying things like, “Homosexuals are sinners, god didn’t want this, and my favorite, god made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” “Leviticus 20:13 - If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.” (Bible). When people read things like this in the bible it’s basically telling them it’s okay to discriminate against others, such as homosexuals. It is so wrong that the bible consists of sch horrible, degrading passages, saying if a man is in sexual relations with another man they should be put to death. The bible also states, “Leviticus 18:22 - Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.” Don’t get me wrong I see no problem believing in god, but I don’t believe people should take the bible as serious as they do. The bible doesn’t only talk about discrimination against homosexuality, it also talks about how women must listen to their husbands, and different foods you shouldn’t eat because if you don’t obey the bible you are going to hell. Leviticus 19:27 reads, “You shall not round off the side-growth of your heads nor harm the edges of your beard.” That’s basically saying you can’t cut your hair or you’re going to hell, which is complete stupidity. The bible also states, “You are to keep my statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together.” The bible just has ridiculous “laws” that you must abide by like not mixing two fabrics, therefore saying you can’t wear polyester. I think it’s foolish that many people know the bible has irrational passages written in it, but insist on saying, “According to the bible homosexuality is…

I do not believe in the bible and I am allowed to marry in any church or place with open arms in the name of God. Everyone takes this argument to the bible, how many mothers kick their children out for being gay is growing everyday. 1 Timothy 5:8 Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. From what I have read online and from the parents words and what they have written they are christian. They are worse than an unbeliever, worse than me, And I believe that anybody can love no matter what race, religion, how old you are you can still love. What if being gay was normal and being straight was a sin? You would be sinning everyday and you know what you would feel. Bad you would wanna kill yourself, you wouldn't wanna be yourself anymore because everyone hates you. Or you would live through it and be the happiest person on the planet and nobody could stop you. The bible was written by a bunch of guys. People can not be made from clay, someone can not be made of dust. I went to church and I sang for people, I never paid attention to the pastor because well I did not believe in the bible. He spoke about how anyone who loved the same gender as themselves would be burned in hell for all eternity. I got up right in the middle of his speech and left that room. My uncle was sent to prison for flirting with a man in a bar, My other uncle had to get a divorce with his husband and their children were taken away because people would riot outside there house and they put the kids lives at danger. What's so wrong with gay marriage anyhow? Are they touching you, bothering you, are they trying to turn you? No so leave them alone. In human nature I do believe that we all want to outrank each other and be better. Christians…

From as long as one can date back, there has always been a history discrimination towards others among the general populace. First and foremost, there have been numerous accounts of judgement upon homosexuality making claims stating that it is an immoral choice, a mental disorder, or religiously unjust to be homosexual. These accusations stem as the cause of why members of the LBGT organization are shunned to society and constantly victimized, simply based off of the lack of knowledge towards the true origins of homosexuality. For example, in previous years, homosexuality was documented in the American Psychiatric Association’s, the APA’s, official list of mental disorders. The idea of homosexuality having to do with mental stability is supported…

There are a numerous amount of reasons as to why people oppose gay marriage, but basically it comes down to an absolute infringement on the civil liberties of homosexuals. The most basic argument for the opposition to gay marriage is the simple statement ?Marriage is an institution between one man and one woman.? I would like to know who is to decide what marriage is and isn?t. The married? Politicians? The Bible? Isn?t freedom of religion also freedom from religion? Somehow the ?Bible? assertion always seems to arise into modern political debates. I want to know whatever happened to separation from religion and state. I want to know when white male Christians are going to realize that there are many other religions, races, and sexual orientations out there other than their own. In fact, Scott Bidstrup cleverly states, ?many sects of Buddhist celebrate gay relationships freely and would like to have the authority to make them legal marriages. In that sense, their religious freedom is being infringed.? Although, the Bible argument should immediately be dicounted, even if we were to survey the text, who is to interpret the statements. ?People in the late 1800s and early 1900s justified the exploitation of slaves claiming that the Bible clearly showed Gods support for it. Now people are saying that they can clearly see Gods condemnation of gays.? (Silver 64) For a moment, branching off from the marriage topic, I?d like to just…

People are getting hurt by the ideals that promote homosexuality. These ideals not only lure more and more young adults to try-out homosexual behavior, which also makes the struggle more difficult for gays who want to leave that lifestyle; because by definition, according to Robert A.F. Gagnon, Ph.D. author of Why “Gay Marriage” is Wrong, homosexual desire is sexual narcissism or sexual deception. There is either One, a conscious recognition that one desires in another what one already is and has as a sexual being (anatomy, physiology, sex-based traits) or Two, a self-delusion of sorts in which the sexual same is perceived as some kind of sexual other. I perceive this to be my truth in this matter based on my own religious beliefs.…

The issue of LGBT rights has always been an issue since the beginning of time. Since society sees members from the LGBT community as different and not normal, they are constantly discriminated against. America is supposed to be a country of freedom, but it seems as though whenever we discover something that we don’t like we figure out a way to try and make it disappear. However, I believe it is wrong to discriminate against the LGBT community. In the Constitution it states all men have equal rights, and I believe that should include everyone not just certain people.…
