Homosexual Parenting
One Dad, Two Dads, Gay Adoption Homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted and integrated into today’s society, however, when it comes to homosexuals establishing families, a problem is posed. In most states, homosexuals can adopt children like any other married or single adult. The United States has many children waiting to be adopted. There are several types of adoption that gay couples can explore. It all depends on whether the agency, the state and the country are open to gay adoption. Gay adoption is nothing new. Gays and lesbians have been adopting for a long time, but only recently gay adoptions have been done openly. Should gays have the right to adopt children in the United States? Should it be allowed? There is no legal or valid reason why gays and lesbians should be denied the right to adopt children; they have parental instincts and are as interested in beginning families and raising children just like anyone else.
The law only hurts children waiting to be adopted and deprives loving parents who would care for those children. It does not matter if they are homosexual or heterosexual. A family should be based on love and trust, if these two elements are present in a relationship, there would be no reason that the environment the couple creates for a child would be bad. Some important reasons why a gay adoption could be good: they are probably better parents than some of the straight couples, they can raise a child in a loving and caring environment, and they will teach children the same moral values as anyone else.
There may be indications that children benefit from having two lesbian parents. Fiona Tasker of Birkbeck College in the Netherlands, "...found that the non-biological lesbian parent was usually more involved with the children than are the fathers of heterosexual couples."(Espejo, p.97) "The vast consensus of all the studies shows that children of same-sex parents do as well as children whose parents are heterosexual in every way,"
