If someone were to ask me if I thought Homosexuals should be allowed to marry, I would say definitely. Allowing same sex marriage will give gay couples access to rights such as inheritance, health coverage, and adoption. Same sex couples should be allowed to have access to marriage benefits just like any other couple. It is not fair for society to shun gays. I feel that we should all be accepting to their lifestyles. Homosexuality is not any different than a normal couple. Love has no boundaries and is controlled by what ones feels inside their hearts.…

When asked if one believes in equal rights for all citizens, the typical, rote response is a resounding “Yes”. If the question becomes more specific as to include the right for homosexuals to marry, a hesitation follows. The concept of gay marriage is far deeper a societal problem for most because its roots lie in prejudicial perspectives that have permeated us for years. Before the fight for the right to marry, the gay community has long endured simply the right to exist openly without feeling pariah-like.…

Until, recently people who were a part of the LGBT community were not allowed to publicly declare their sexuality. Although there has been a huge breakthrough providing equality for people in this community with the Supreme Court ruling gay marriage to be allowed in all 50 states, there are still countless stories of discrimination based on sexual orientation in the United States. “The U.S. Supreme Court’s historic ruling establishing nationwide marriage equality masks a stark and persistent reality: a patchwork of state and local non-discrimination laws continues to leave millions of LGBT Americans - including those who are legally married - without reliable protections from discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation, according to a report released today by HRC.” There have been multiple cases of businesses denying service to members of the LGBT community for interfering with their religious beliefs. Even our “GOP frontrunner Donald Trump pledged that, if elected, he would appoint justices who would reverse the landmark Supreme Court decision establishing marriage equality nationwide.” So where do we draw the line between religious beliefs and infringing upon the rights of others? If we have already declared that it is lawful for people to express their sexuality in a certain manner, then it is only fair that they be treated with the same respect and acceptance of the American people that they deserve. This issue has been suppressed for years and the people who have been hiding in the shadows deserve to see the light of…

Hodges that state limitations on same-sex marriage violates the Fourteenth Amendment, making all state bans on same-sex marriages illegal. This Supreme Court decision took the decision of gay rights legislation, when it comes to marriage, out of the hands of the states, making it a federal issue. This ruling made it legal for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 states. The problem with the rulings, though, was that it did not provide instructions on implementation within the individual states (Duke, 2015). This paper will focus on legislation on the Federal level and will cover issues and rights that the LGBT community has been fighting for. As you will read later in the paper, marriage is not the only rights that the LGBT community lacked, there were many policies that passed through the United States government to get the country where it is today in terms of…

Many of them were displeased at the fact that homosexuals were discriminated against, and didn't have the same rights as heterosexuals. In November of 1989, Time magazine took a poll on what the people thought about legal benefits that homosexuals should receive. 62% came back saying that homosexuals should be permitted to receive medical and life insurance benefits from their life long partner, and yet nothing has come of that yet. It seems that the government should possibly be the ones going against the thoughts of the nation here.
