Homer Barron, also known as Emily’s Yankee lover, finally brought hr a sense of hope when it came to having love. Homer is a well known man around Jefferson, he kept all the towns people laughing and was always in the middle of everything. Homer was a part of “The construction company with Negros, mules, and machinery” (807). The construction company started working on the pavement of the sidewalks the summer after Emily’s father’s death. Miss Emily and Homer were beginning to be noticed and talked about amongst the townspeople of Jefferson. When she begins spending time with Homer people believe she is desperate enough for any type of affection that she would completely forget about her family pride and associate with a Northerner, someone beneath her. Emily is seen buying arsenic, a poison and everyone presumes she will use it to kill herself. After Emily’s death the townspeople go to her house and break down the sealed door to the upstairs room. After getting into the room they see all the things for a wedding laid out around the room including a man’s suit. On the bed they find the decaying body of Homer Barron with an acrid smell of poison coming from him.…

Krakauer wrote that Chris McCandless was, "green, and he overestimated his resilience, but was sufficiently skilled to last for sixteen weeks on a little more than his wits and ten pounds of rice"(Krakauer 182). In this quote it seems that Krakauer thought that McCandless was well equipped with his skills, so that made moderately prepared to survive in any situation. I feel that McCandless was rather prepared, yet again he never could have been fully prepared for the unexpected. My opinion is that McCandless was vaguely aware of the struggles that he would encounter in the Alaskan wilderness such as his epiphany that "happiness is only real when shared" was realized when his body was dying of starvation. I believed that he found what he was…

The writer pointed out that the militias brought along with them items that are equally tangible and intangible, an example is that, Lieutenant Jimmy’s photograph of and emotions for Martha. The other gentlemen’s of the unit are introduced through explanations of the things they brought with them, as illustion, Henry Dobbins, who brings extra food, Ted Lavender who carries items such as tranquilizer pills, and Kiowa who brings a hunting hatchet. The author presents readers to the novel's main characters by explaining the items that the soldiers bring with them. The amount of detail the writer offers about the characters is expanded upon and illuminated in the chapters that follow, though O'Brien distills the essence of each character’s personality through the symbolic items each carries.…

Homer Baron is an important figure in this story because he shows the reader that you must look beyond the surface before judging someone. Although, this is not clear we can make this inference based on subtle hints the narrator gives to us. For instance, the narrator leads us to believe that Homer is gay based on his word choice. However, one cannot make this conclusion given the tone of the story. The narrator is speaking as a member of the town; and the towns people gossip about everything without all the details. Therefore, the talk of Homer being a homosexual cannot be backed by facts. This is just one example of the ways Homer is depicted by the town, that we as the reader do not have evidence to support. We cannot assume that he is what…

It seems to me that Christopher was anything but a heroic character. McCandless was so obsessed with being on his own and living on literature that he was not prepared. After all McCandless arrived in Alaska with peoples help. I believe that if he would not have found the people on the way to help him he would not have made it. The self-inflicted pain that he felt would not allow him to get attached to someone. Although, the people that had the chance to know him described him as a talented and genuine person, capable of doing whatever he intended to do. In some parts of the book I find McCandless extremely independent, but in other sections I find him ridiculously selfish. The fact that he only thought of what he wanted to do without thinking…

“Passing required life-altering changes…[many] severed ties completely from their black family to live a solitary white life” (Johnson n.pag). Additionally, when Homer’s body is found it is clothed in the nightshirt Emily bought for him and he is lying in bed in a lovers pose. “The body had once lain in the attitude of embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of love, had cuckolded him” (Faulkner 98). This implies that he and Emily had been intimate before his…

He was the first to actually court Emily. Since Emily was already middle-aged and the reality was that no one else would want her, Homer was sort of her last chance. The fact that he was a Northerner whos only reason for coming to the South was to do construction work most likely led her to believe that he would soon leave her. There were also rumors that his behavior proved that he liked men because he often drank with them at bars. (Pp. 20) This triggered Emily's fears because she had already bought matching toiletries and men's clothing only to find out that Homer was not marriage material. She then probably felt that he would leave her which is why Emily murdered…

The character that I chose to talk about was Bart Simpson from the cartoon the Simpson. “According to simpsoncrazy.com on the internet (n.a.), Bart name was Bartholomew Jo-Jo Simpson, he was known as the one to cause trouble in the family. Bart Simpson is the eldest of the siblings and he has signs of Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder (ADHD). Bart Simpson is ten years old well was in nine teen eighty nine when the Simpsons show was produced. He is two years and thirty eight days older than Lisa.” Bart does not meet the two areas of topical development because cognitively his brain isn’t well developed, and that is proven because he doesn’t listen very well and he likes to ask the same things over and over again. He is not where he should be age wise according to his brain because he does things that are not normal for a ten year old. His social and personality are not really developed because he meets the social aspects but not the personality because is not very friendly and he can’t help the way that he does things because his disorder is inherited by his father.…
