Introduction:

Jerome Gomez was a dedicated, talented officer who always did his best to protect his local community. When he showed up for work one day, his first call was about a homeless man at the local Walmart. For some reason, the homeless man absolutely refused to leave the store. Jerome knew that situations like this could quickly spiral out of control, so he instantly responded to the call.

Jerome had served on the police force for almost five years. During that time, he had seen plenty of unusual things. With so many homeless people in the area, the shelters were often too full to care for them all. Many of the homeless individuals had to sleep on the streets. Jerome knew that they were often attacked by cruel people, so he did his best to protect him. He also knew that some of the homeless people were deranged and could hurt other

George Finns had been homeless for more than a decade. He had spent so many years on the streets that he did not remember what it was like to sleep in a bedroom at night. When he first started sleeping on the streets, George had tried to find a shelter each night. Soon, he found out that the shelters were often more dangerous than the streets. Even if he tried to find a shelter, there was rarely extra space available.

In “ Helping and hating the Homeless”, the author Peter Mann explain that the word homeless is now applied to most people with so many histories and problems. First of all, there are a lot of reasons that explain why they became homeless but most people categorized all of the reason into one. Some homeless people start their normal life by living on the street, sometimes they make drivers crazy because they are always hanging out on the street. For some experiences that they couldn’t escape from, and join the society.…

He introduced me to some of his fellow officers. There are 14 officers, including the chief, all of whom are male (though they are hoping for more female recruits, they never seem to get any). He showed me around the station, showing me the kitchen area (fully stocked), the filing room, their office area, and the two jail cells. At 8:16 we departed from he station to begin patrol around Taneytown. Traveling through the town, we received several friendly waves, though the occasional car would flash their headlights at us. The overall reaction of the citizens to the police was positive, especially from where the businesses were. The area that the station receives the most calls from is Carnival Road, where there are small, single family houses. Many of these houses are unfortunately not well maintained, though there are still a handful of houses that were well cared…

“On Compassion” by Barbara Lazear Ascher and “Homeless” by Anna Quindlen are two essays written about homelessness. Ascher has written from a compassionate perspective. She describes events with homeless individuals, but focuses on the reactions of others towards the homeless. The essay written by Anna Quindlen lends a different perspective on the matter of homelessness. She describes a brief interaction with a woman who appears to be homeless. Despite the woman’s raincoat and bag with the grime shadowing the creases, she produces a series of pictures depicting a house, proclaiming to Quindlen that she is not homeless. At some point in this woman’s life she had a house “she was somebody” (217). On the surface these two essays appear to be talking about homeless people in general. However, when looked at on a deeper level the reader will realize there is much more to these essays than interactions with a homeless man and women.…

    Tom Finder Quotes

Although the topic of homelessness does not affect me personally I often see homeless people around downtown Brantford and I start to wonder. Why do people stay homeless, because often many homeless people have chances to get off the streets such as welfare checks and homeless shelters, but yet they choose not to take them? I suppose in many cases it may be a case of mental instability or under age or may simply not qualify for help. Another thing that I wonder is why people are so rude to homeless people and why they choose to ignore them as if they’re not even there. As described on page 24 “He ran back to the core, back to the skyscrapers and the people dressed in black whose faces and clothes weren’t crushed by the air, whose gaze was above his head. Tom ran until he was safe and invisible.” What this quote basically states is that tom referred to the core, with all the people made him feel safe and invisible because no one acknowledged him. This is disgusting in my opinion that we cannot notice people during their darkest days and when there at “Rock Bottom” and thats just not…

In the third and fourth paragraph the author explains why she is putting herself through this ordeal. The answer is simple, she explains “I was one of 50 people who had volunteered to take part in a sponsored sleep-out in September for the Leeds-based homeless charity Simon on the Streets” this charity aids those who are homeless with an aim to raise awareness about homelessness in Leeds. The reader is informed that the director of this charity, Clive Sandle claims that his charity helps 50-100 people on a regular basis, he adds that the accurate number of rough sleepers in any city “can never properly be known” which shows just how much homelessness is affecting our society.…

Frank comes in very often to get food, because there’s not many other ways for him to get food because he can’t afford it himself. Frank also suffers from mental disabilities, and it is incredibly sad to see him homeless and hungry like he is. Frank can not maintain a stable job because of these mental disabilities. The moment I looked out the window of the car and my eyes turned to the row of homeless people weaving its way through the traffic begging for money, I jumped out of my seat. It was my first visit to India after leaving the country for the United States. The homeless people's’ hands were making weird gestures and thumping the windows of the honking cars. I could not digest what I was seeing! While reaching out to an old woman to give her some money, I thought about what non homeless people could do to help those without a home and basic needs. Then, I asked myself a question. Why not give them something that will be with them forever and help them out of their poverty and teach them valuable skills? After all, a mountain of…
