Homeless Community Research Paper
The way communities are build need to change, in order to change a number of people who are living on the streets. I have seen many homeless people struggle, especially to be able to have some food. Witnessing the struggle many people go through has inspired me to obtain a degree in agricultural science in order to grow organic foods and eventually donate this food to those in need. Not only will it provide with a way to be healthier but they will be consuming healthier foods. Not only would I like to provide help to homeless people but also to local low-income families; there are many families who do not have enough money to buy sufficient food for their family especially when it comes to large families. Affording organic foods is pricey as …show more content…
I have taken advantage of this opportunity and it has been a life changing experience. As they walk up and receive the food we offer to each and every single one of them I observe them. I can see how sleep deprived they are and how much desperation they have to receive warm food and coffee after a long night of sleeping in the freezing cold weather, even though there are many shelters who take in homeless people many of them are limited to a number of people they can help. I feel the need to serve those in need because I have been very fortunate to receive many things in life and unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities to resources like I have. Since I have been fortunate to receive such resources I feel that it is my duty to repay that good fortune by giving back to those in need. Something that impacted me the most was seeing women living under the bridge. There were several women that discussed their experience with me and how they had previously been assaulted. As they would tell me their stories, I felt a mix of many emotions, I felt frustrated, disappointed and sad. Eventually, I would like to make an impact on the way that people live and get them off the streets. People should not be suffering in order to have a roof over their head and especially not for

Imagine you’re walking down the sidewalks of Wilmington. You see cars and buses driving by along with adults and children. You notice that there is a little girl, looking rather malnourished, holding a plastic bag full of canned vegetables, peaches, and juice. As she walks by, a paper flutters out of the bag. You pick it up and realize that it’s a flyer for the Food Bank of Delaware. The paper says that they are in need of volunteers to help package food for people in Delaware. You ask yourself, “If I volunteered, could I make a change?” The answer is yes. The Food Bank of Delaware needs volunteers to help package food for people who cannot obtain it. Some may go without food, but with the help of volunteers at the Food Bank of Delaware, more people will have the chance to get the food they need.…

Increasing the awareness of the food insecurities that create the need for food pantries will, in turn, lessen the stigma surrounding them. Knowing that the need for assistance with food securities is a common problem shared by a large part of our population will help them to not feel alone in their struggle and increase the likely hood that they will seek the help of the food pantries. Volunteering at a food pantry makes it possible to personally help relieve the stigma, making those in need feel comfortable knowing that people care and there is help available. Reducing the unneeded shame associated with the need for food will help more people be willing to utilize the food banks to meet their dietary…

I come from a fairly large city in California so I’ve been around many homeless people throughout my life. I’ve had good and bad experiences when it comes to being around them and dealing with them. My initial view of the homeless is that they are somewhat lazy and that a lot of them are on drugs. I feel this way because I’ve seen and dealt with so many sick, obnoxious people on the streets aggressively asking for money. I always think to myself, if I were in that situation I would find a way. There are so many resources that help people get back on their feet. Instead of begging on the streets, I would go get help. Instead of asking for money, I would ask for help from one of the many organizations so I can find a job and make my own money. However, there is another side of me that is extremely empathetic. This side of me knows that something sad and unfortunate must have happened to these people and that this life isn’t their choice. For example, children that are born into homeless families, people with mental illnesses, and of course people who have been laid off of work.…

n the world, there are so many people that do not have any shelter. I am very sad, when I see them adrift at the corners of the park or on the street. In my opinion, helping to homeless people can lessen their suffering. For example, when my father sees homeless people with grime clothes, he gives some clothes to them this work is admirable. This my father's good behavior remains a legacy for me and I try to help to homeless people like my…

By putting myself in the shoes of a homeless individual I experienced great shame and embarrassment. I could not imagine how real homeless people who may have kids and families to support would feel that they could not sustain themselves yet alone another soul. I learned that these peoples have very hard lives and must have a difficult time starting a new. While most people have access to the necessities and complain that they do not have enough. It taught be to be thankful for what I have and do not judge others. As in this project nobody offered me money and many said they did not have money on them. I felt very vulnerable and helpless like I could not do anything to get money to sustain myself if I was really homeless. Even though they may have known that I was not homeless the thing that I learned was that society really is a place for the rich to thrive and poor to suffer. Society accepts people who are rich in the material and molded into norms that society see fit. Homeless do not fit on this scale and are like outsiders who do not fit anywhere in this hierarchy. They are seen as a burden and taught me that helping the poor is a good thing since if you were one you would want compassionate humans to do the…

It is important for liberals and conservatives to view the underlying physical, psychological, and economical factors as a whole integral system in order to develop resilient solutions for people living in homelessness. While liberals and conservative parties argue about the reasons of homelessness, it is vital to look at the underlying physiological and financial factors as the sources that contribute to homelessness. When viewing the key sources that drive people to homelessness, and also viewing the sources as an integral system within our society, we may be able to appropriately address the issue and resolve this long-standing matter that politicians have quarreled for decades.…

I hope to pass out one blanket and one sandwich to the homeless who are not allowed in a shelter. I will be going downtown every Saturday for the next 4 weeks to pass out blankets and sandwiches. Doing this project will change the world by helping people who are starving and freezing to death. I am doing this project for two reasons. The first reason is because I was assigned this project for 8th grade English class. The second reason is because I think everyone deserves to be warm, provided with food, and have their physical needs met. I am glad that we have this project because it makes me think harder about how I can make an impact on the world.…

Being a two sport athlete playing both Basketball and Football I know if I make it to the Next level in my career one of the first things I would do is invest into giving back to my community and helping charities around the world. Ever since about 6 years old I would always go with my grandma to the local food give pantry at her church, helping give food to families and in need of extra or those who were homeless. We would go every two weeks. At first i never really wanted to go because I thought all homeless people were smelly until I seen young children my age, younger and some older than me. My heart had immediately felt sorrowful, but I knew then that I wanted to help people who were in need and do all I could to make a difference in people’s lives. As I got older I would become more involved and helping not only at church but at my high school. Participating in clubs such as national French honor society and food drives we helped people on special holidays such as Christmas and thanksgiving.…

I have been involved with Girl Scouts for 8 years and through that experience, community service and many hours spent volunteering have become very meaningful to my life as well as taught me many things that I will use throughout my life. I have volunteered countless hours, but out of all of the work I have done, my Girl Scout awareness project has had the greatest impact not only on the community, but on myself as well. For my project, I had hoped to bring reckless and drunk driving awareness to the community to help out the parents who have lost children themselves to this issue, and to show teens that getting behind the wheel intoxicated can be extremely hazardous. Being a teenager myself and witnessing fellow classmates pass away due to this issue, it breaks my heart to know that the cause of their death was a couple of alcoholic beverages. My project was to show students the risk of their decisions.…

There is an issue that is constantly occurring in our community, which are homeless people. Lately, there have been more of them crowding and hanging around the libraries, especially Costa Mesa. Costa Mesa is a county supported library with fewer resources compared to a city supported library such as Newport Beach. Costa Mesa Library is not pushing away the homeless as much as Newport Beach. Orange County currently has 30,000 homeless people today and that is not an accurate statistic. This trend has progressively gotten worse over the years and it is not getting any better. Not every homeless person you see on the street is a drug abuser or mentally ill. Some have been affected severely from our recession. The issue that is going on is the homeless is scaring many of the adults and parents of children away from the library. They have been coming more and more with other groups of bums to sit around outside or in the library. The reason this has gotten worse is because the city has enforced strict rules for homeless to stay out of the parks. The Orange County Register posted an article that says, the city grapples with its homeless people, city leaders are rolling out laws intended to make Costa Mesa less comfortable for them, especially people from outside the city limits. They are trying to satisfy residents who complain that the homeless overrun public spaces and make it uncomfortable to bring a family to parks or libraries. There is not much of a place for them to go now but to come during the day to the library. This is a problem because the library has been getting fewer children and adults than they have had from the past.…

My family moved many times while I was growing up. However, near the end of my 4th grade, we settled in a very small, non-diverse town in Minnesota. My parents were in the hotel business and one day I saw a homeless man ask for a place to stay. My father allowed him to stay for the night since it was snowing outside and the temperature was below freezing. I could not stand knowing that there were people on the street who did not have a place to sleep at night. Upon doing more research, I discovered that my town, Grand Rapids, did not have a homeless shelter. Because the town did not have many homeless people, it never felt the need to create a shelter. However, the number of homeless people was slowly increasing and I saw this as a huge…

Homelessness is a pressing issue throughout the entire world. It affects people of all ages, genders, and races. The official definition from Google of homeless is “(of a person) without a home, and therefore typically living on the streets.” People who are homeless usually do not choose their homelessness. In fact, many people are pushed into this status due to many different reasons, such as gentrification or just difficulty finding a job. Walking down the Market Street of San Francisco, a bustling city, one would find many homeless begging, walking, or chatting with other homeless. They each have their own story behind their homelessness, and their own hardships. Women, in particular, have different needs and sufferings; they are more prone…

Intervening in the lives of the homeless could help save their lives. Many of the homeless population have some sort of mental illness or disorder. This could be anything from PTSD to Schizophrenia to Bipolar disorder. These people are without their regular medication, which can cause their diseases to take over. Without any family support, many of these people turn to robberies to get their medication. Some even turn to suicide when they can take no more. Even if the person refuses the help, at least help was offered. Not many homeless people get the chance for help, without institutions. They are shy to acknowledge that they have an illness, which means not reaching out for help. They are afraid that people will look down on them and put them into mental institutions.…
