Homeland Security
Since 9/11, terrorism has become a priority for law enforcement and military personnel in the United States. Even more importantly, it has turned into a "War on Terrorism." September 11th was the worst terrorist attack ever on the United States. Therefore, our government officials responded in the only way that felt suitable, attacking terrorism. The group responsible for the events of 9/11 is called the Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda is one of the most well known terrorist groups in the world. Because of past issues with the Muslim community, the United States should have been prepared for a retaliation from them. This is a problem for us here in the United States because now the thought of another attack by one of the most powerful terrorist groups in the world is always in the back of our minds (http://www.globalissues.org/issue/245/war-on-terror.)

The war on terrorism can leave a positive and negative effect on the community of the United States. On the positive side, the emphasis on homeland security has been heightened. The Department of Homeland Security has been implementing new ideas to try and keep us people as safe as possible. However, the war has left some negative effects on the community. Like in most wars, family members and friends that have committed their lives to protecting our country, have been sent to fight over seas. Also, terrorism leaves a lot of people in terrible fear everyday. Some take it to the extreme and let it effect their lives.

One of the most well-known terrorist groups to the United States is the Al-Qaeda organization. This group was responsible for the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. If it were not for those events, most people in our country would have no idea who this group was. Most people think that they are a group that wants to kill people who do not have the same beliefs as them. In some aspects that is the case, in others it is not. Many terrorists base their groups on certain ideologies, some more extreme than others, and some claim they are just doing what is best for society. Though in many cases this is not the case.
