Holiday Weight Analysis
Temptations are all around us during the holidays. For one, our brains will tell us that we can eat more fatty foods because we can hide out forming tummy's underneath a baggy sweater and a thick pair of tummy tucking jeans. However, if you go with that idea for too long, by the time spring comes around you would have put on so much weight that you will not want to get rid of the baggy sweaters or the warm baggy sweat pants. And believe me, it's much harder taking off that holiday weight than it was putting it on. The best trick I have learned over the years is to put on a bikini every week and see how my body looks. During winter months we tend to tire down like hibernating bears. Although sleeping in on cold snowy days is a heck of a nice way to spend a day, do make sure you stay active. Instead of hiring someone to shovel snow out of your driveway, do it yourself. It's good exercise, and keeps your body in check. Getting outside to stay active may be too difficult t do on cold days, but if you stay active it is not as horrible. Ice skating, sled riding, and even pulling the kids on a sled are all ways to not only stay warm, but to stay active while having fun. If you cannot be as active outside, then like I said, a sports game like Wii Fit, or EA Sports Active are all great ways to stay fit without having to endure harsh cold weather. Visiting indoor community pools is also a nice way to keep fit, not only does it allow you to put on your swimsuit, which for me is the vital key when it comes to staying fit during the holidays, but swimming is always a fun way of keeping fit, and losing weight. Many women dread putting on a swimsuit after engorging themselves all winter long. Take a Walk If your feet aren't too swollen, taking a walk once a day can help keep the body fit and keep blood flowing. Just make sure to bring water so that you don't get dehydrated. Try to wear clothing that won't get too uncomfortable, and wear well-fitting and comfortable walking shoes. Pregnancy Yoga One of the biggest pregnancy trends ever is pregnancy yoga. It's a mental and physical exercise all in one, which is why it is so important. Doing yoga will help keep stress levels down, while helping the body stay in shape as much as possible. A friend that recommended yoga swears that the exercise helped her labor go more smoothly, so that is only a plus! Catch Plenty of ZZZ'S Sleep is important to one's physical health whether they or pregnant or not. Getting good rest will keep the body energized and rejuvenated. Don't Go Hungry A healthy diet will keep unnecessary fat away while still providing plenty of nutrition for mom and baby! I've always been told that a steady, healthy diet is the best way to keep metabolism in check, so it only makes sense to stick to it during pregnancy! Well, it is suggested by many health care providers that weight should be gained but also managed through diet and exercise. The recommended amount of weight to gain is between 25 and 35 pounds. Anything is excess to that makes is much more difficult to lose when the baby is born. An expectant mother should watch her diet and try to eat healthy foods and the foods that are needed to enrich the fetal growth. A woman should not try or even expect to lose weight by exercising while pregnant. Another question most mothers have after giving birth to the baby is how long will it take to return to pre-baby weight. Although exercising will help to lose some of the weight, it is possible to still maintain some post-pregnancy weight even years later. A study by Rooney and Schauberger was conducted to track the long-term pregnancy weight gain years later. In the study, the doctors found that the average weight gain for pre-pregnancy to six months after birth was approximately 3.75 pounds.
